A Little Bit of Normalcy
Who: Barbara and Poe
Where: The Clocktower
When: Before Barbara's announcement here
What: Enjoying a night in
Rating: Low
"Barbara! Are you in?" Poe called out as he made his way into the clocktower and up to her quarters. He'd long since been given access to her home and tended to drop by unexpectedly on occasion. "I brought some weird food that we could try to eat!" He had bags of exotic foods in each hand, so he might have gone a little overboard in his excitement.
"Well, there's my handsome guy..." Babs called out with an adorably beaming smile as she wheeled herself over to him, looking festive in black nylon leggings and a fluffy green and red Christmas sweater. "What's the occasion?" She asked, noting all the various foods he was carrying.
"Don't you look nice," Poe said. He leaned down to give her a chaste kiss on the lips. "Well, I figured it was about time I fixed you a meal. I can't guarantee that it'll be in any way successful, but at least it'll be fun trying." He gave her that charming irresistible smile of his. "Plus, I'd be lying if I said I haven't been craving your company all day."
"Well, aren't you in luck then, sir?" She asked with a playful smirk. "Because I just so happen to be available and craving your company as well." These two were just precious, weren't they?
"I consider myself very lucky," he purred. Poe lead the way to the kitchen so he could deposit the bags of groceries on the counter top. "Honestly I don't even know what half of this stuff is, but it sure is gonna be fun trying it."
"Well, at least I know you're good with your hands." She said, grinning as she did. "I would think that lends itself well to cooking..."
"You know, you always find a way to make me blush," Poe admitted with a chuckle. Barbara surprised him frequently with little comments like that. He started taking food items out of the bags and after a brief pause, added: "You're probably right though" and gave her a wink. He liked that they could banter like this, but liked their serious moments too. Frankly, any time he spent with Barbara was time that he always looked forward to. "So! Which questionable food do you wanna try first?"
"Hm." The redhead said with an arch of one eyebrow, as she tapped her chin in thought. "So many risks, so little time. But I'm going to say... that stuff that looks remotely like some kind of intergalactic sushi." She said, pointing at a few items. "What can I say? I live on the edge."
"Well, wouldn't you know it? I was thinking of trying that first too." It was kind of funny how their minds went on the same wavelength like that. "Prepare to either be amazed or slightly disgusted," Poe said as he began preparing plates for them.
"Not gonna lie... at this point? I'd be more than satified if it even ends up in a happy middle-ground here." Babs told him, that cute little lopsided grin of hers teaming up with the lovey-eyes she gave when looking at him to make her almost nuclear-levels of adorable. Hard to believe this woman could beat someone up from her wheelchair.
Oh, Poe could believe it. Of course, he believed that Babs was capable of anything once she put her mind to it. He leaned down to press a kiss to her lips. He was enjoying fussing over her like this. He made a mental note to do it more often. "You know, my favourite part of being here?" By here he meant Galador. "Was that I met you."
Babs just gave him a loving smile, with the comfort in her eyes telling the story: she felt the exact same way. "Poe..." She started with an adoring sigh, "If you had any idea how hard I'm falling in love with you, it would break your brain. You are damn-near the perfect man."
"And you're just perfect," Poe replied, gazing at her adoringly. He stopped fussing for a moment to show that he appreciated the enormity of what she just said and to drop a truth-bomb of his own. "I love you so much, Barbara. There isn't anything in this world or any other that I wouldn't do for you."
"You know... I think this is the first time we've actually said as much to each other though." She grinned, kind of wishing she could just pounce on him right now. She tended to feel like a teenage girl again with him - he was so handsome, so charming... he just blew her away on every level.
"I think it is too," Poe beamed. Ever since they'd met he just couldn't get enough of her. She was beautiful, kind, intelligent. What was not to like? "I think that's cause for a celebration. How about after dinner I take you out and we can fly among the stars?"
"That sounds perfect, actually." Aside from the fact that being in space with him sounded terribly romantic, she loved the way he flew. He so clearly enjoyed it, and it brought out all the best parts of his confident swagger. "Come to think of it... I'm at the point where doing pretty much anything with you sounds perfect."
"Well, careful now, Babs. That just opens up whole other worlds of possibilities," Poe teased, giving her his best charming smile. Still, one thing at a time. He finished fixing their plates, then served their meal at the dining table, along with a couple of drinks and dipping sauces.
If you think THAT opens possibilities, wait till I have my surgery... she found herself thinking with a smirk, before tilting her head to the side in thought. "What exactly are you thinking, Mr. Dameron?"
"Well, if I told you that it would ruin half the fun, don't you think?" He really did enjoy surprising her, the light that shown in her eyes when something delighted her; he never wanted her to lose that light. "Nothing dangerous. Promise," he added with a quick wink before quickly munching on some of his space-sushi.
Babs bit into hers as well, before giving a hilarious wince, like someone who just bit into a rotten egg. "I... try to be very open to new foods and experiences. But I'm actually pretty certain if I had to kill and eat one of my operatives it would still be better tasting this. And I mean that with everything in me."
Poe laughed and picked up another piece of food, dipping it into sauce and munching on it. "You know, I don't mind it." He'd basically eat anything, though. "Alright. Let's see if we can brave something else over there." He was bound and determined to find something that she'd like, even if it took all night.
"I'm seriously tempted to grab the spicy noodles, just because we've had those before and I know I like them..." Babs told him, before giving a sexy little smirk. "But my sense of adventure is telling me to go for something else."
Oh. Oh no. That smirk was going to be the death of him. "Oh really?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "And what exactly was my favorite lady thinking?"
"I don't know if I should say it..." Babs told him in a melodramatic tone. "I don't want you to think of me as some decadent wild child..." She then dramatically reached over to where the containers of soup were. "OH BUT I MUST. Yes, I'm going to try... the weird wonton-like soup."
Poe laughed again and helped her get the soup, handing her a spoon while she was at it. "A brave choice, m'lady." He reached for a rectangular item wrapped in foil and opened it up. It sort of looked like a burrito; if only he knew what a burrito was. "But I think I've got you beat."
"Gotta admit, honey... for someone who typically prides herself on her deductive skills, I have literally no idea what it is you have planned." She admitted, stifling a little giggle. She loved how carefree and... normal she felt when they were together.
It was a little bit of normalcy that they both needed. Poe beamed. "Well, that just happens to be one of my missions in life. To always find ways to surprise you." He leaned over and smooched her cheek. He couldn't help it but be affectionate when they were together since day dot.
