By all accounts Blake had taken to arriving on a new planet very well -- although that was due in no small part to Julie Power, who made her arrival as painless as possible. Her daughter was old enough now to be confused but thankfully was so engrossed in her coloring book that she didn't ask too many questions and her son was blissfully asleep in her arms. Blake was tired. One could argue that it was alternate-reality jet-leg, but having two kids under the age of four was enough to tire anyone out. Julie had just set out a message to Gwen, which she was grateful for. Now it was just a matter of waiting. She wasn't a fan of waiting.
Honestly? Gwen didn't think she had it IN her to run as fast as she did when she got Julie's message. She'd been in the middle of eating a steak sub outside of Dave Rose's food truck when she got the message... and literally dropped the sandwich mid-bite to haul ass toward the welcome center.
The flannel shirt she had tied around her waist trailed behind her like a cape as she entered, looking around frantically. "Power, I swear to god you better not be fuckin' with me or I will kick your sexy ass..."
"Language!" Blake laughed. Not that she wasn't just as awful swearing around the kids, but it was fun to tease Gwen, okay? At the sound of Gwen's voice, Zelda immediately stood up and bounded gleefully over towards Gwen. "momma!Gwen! Where were you?"
"And what took you so goddamn long?" Blake muttered as she stood up, still cradling Loki in her arms. Kid slept like the dead sometimes. It was a Christmas miracle.
"DUDE!" Gwen flailed, exasperated. "I ran like the fucking Flash! I left three-fourths of a damn good steak sub laying in the middle of the goddamn street just to get to you!" She hugged her daughter, whispering to her. "I was getting everything set up so we can have a nice place to stay, sweet pea."
Blake's stomach grumbled at the mention of food. Hey, when you had kids you tended to put their needs before your own. She made her way over to Gwen so she could get in on the hug as well, giving her a surprisingly chaste kiss on the lips. "And how did that go?" And how long have you really been here? she thought but decided to ask later when they were alone.
"Fairly well." Gwen chuckled, making the face she typically made when things hadn't gone QUITE her way. "I mean, it's nothing like the house we had back home... but it's a roof over our heads, at least. Still working on the job part, but I'm trying to find a way to open our shop here."
Gwen sniffled happily as she nuzzled her face into the nook of Blake's neck, overwhelmed and relieved to see her. "I was starting to worry I'd never see you again..." she whimpered, her voice barely more than a whisper.
"Hey, as long as we're together, right?" Blake replied, voice equally as soft. Gwen must have been here for a little while because she wouldn't be so close to falling apart as she was right now. She nipped at Gwen's neck, marking her in her own way as Loki stirred between them. "Everything else is just confetti."
"I love you so much, Bee..." Gwen sniffled again, before stooping to give Loki a little smooch on the head. And lest the scene get TOO serious (let's not forget who we're talking about here), Gwen then threw in, "And I think Julie Power was eyeing you up like her next meal."
"Maybe a little," Blake agreed with a wrinkle of her nose. To this day it still surprised her when people looked at her like that. When Gwen looked at her like that. Like she was some kind of prize. "What say we blow this joint and you show us these new digs?"
Miraculously, Gwen was able to hold her shit together long enough for them to get back to the small house Gwen had got on loan in Sunnydale. It wasn't much... especially considering the digs they had back home... but it would do for now.
Once they got the kids put to bed for the night, Gwen took Blake's hand, leading her to the bedroom (and more importantly, the privacy within). Typically? The minute that door closed, Gwen would be all over the woman. But this was different. This was a far different part of Gwen trying to get out. When the door clicked, signifying it was now closed completely? Gwen broke. She threw her arms around her wife, breaking into muted sobs. "Oh god... baby... I really though I was never gonna see you again..."
Blake was quick to wrap her arms around Gwen, offering her the comfort and support that she so clearly needed. "Hey, hey. I'm here now," she cooed. Although that did beg the next question. "How... How long have you been here?"
"A good month or two. Maybe more. I don't know... the days without you all start to blend together..." Gwen whimpered, nuzzling into her wife out of sheer habit. "I've held my shit together pretty well... but inside? I've been having mini-meltdowns every DAY."
Blake kissed the top of Gwen's head and simply held her. More than a month? Jesus. No wonder Gwen was a quivering mess right now. "I'm here. We're all together and we're not going anywhere," she promised. God, she could only imagine being without Gwen for that long. For her, it hadn't been more than a day since they'd last seen each other!
She cupped Gwen's cheeks and looked deeply into her eyes. "You're my world. And I promise you, I promise you that you won't have to go another day without me ever again."
Gwen just nodded, staying silent until she felt she could speak without bursting into sobs. "I couldn't get a break... I'd pause from panicking over you not being here, only to start panicking about the kids not being here, only to jump right back to panicking about you when that would pause..." Gwen told her, setting her hands on Blake's hips before... sigh... letting out a turned-on little purr. "And Jesus Christ I forgot how much I love the feel of you..."
"Well, a month or two is a long time to go without these lips," Blake purred before placing a featherlight kiss to Gwen's lips, then her cheeks, her nose, her jaw. They were just as bad as each other sometimes, although sometimes they had moments of true intimacy it almost beggared belief.
"I can't believe we're actually together again. You, me, the babies... it's like I can finally fucking breathe again." Gwen sighed happily, the tips of her fingers dipping under Blake's shirt to scratch lightly along her tummy.
Blake let out a growl at the tummy scratching. She was a very tactile creature by nature; although her sense of smell came a close second. Especially when she was with Gwen. She brushed her fingers through Gwen's long blonde hair. "We're never gonna be far," she promised again. "Apart from all that panicking, did you get up to much? Did you eat?" She glanced down at Gwen's stomach and poked her. She'd lost weight. "You didn't eat."
"There's a chance I might've forgotten..." Gwen replied with a sheepish little grin. Honestly? Had Skylar not thought to check in with her a few times, she probably wouldn't have eaten enough to stay conscious. It wasn't intentional.... Gwen was just the opposite of a stress-eater. She FORGOT to eat when stressed. "But hey! I plan on eating a lot now..."
Blake's eyebrows shot up. "...I can't believe you managed to say that with a straight face," she joked, pinching Gwen's hip this time. They could be vulgar as all get out sometimes. "Do you actually want me to fix you something to eat, or was that you trying to be subtle for once?"
"Hey, I tried, right?" Gwen laughed, nibbling her bottom lip. "I was trying to be a little creative and not just blurt out 'get them drawers off, momma needs her medicine!', you know?"
"Well, I do appreciate the attempt at innuendo," Blake started to say as she tugged the flannel shirt around Gwen's waist, untying it and letting it fall to the floor. "Maybe that's something momma can teach you when we're done here." Frankly, now that the kids were starting to talk it wasn't the worst idea in the world.
