Who: Liz and Her Kyle
What: Talking
Where: The Crashown Cafe then Kyle's place
When: Friday Feb 9th
Rated: PG-13ish for a sexualish situation
Clocking out for the weekend, Liz headed to the front of the hospital to meet up with Kyle so they could grab a bite to eat. After having a light light, she was more than ready to get some food with one of her favorite people at this Crashdown duplicate. She thought about avoiding it but her curiosity got the best of her and she decided she just had to check it out atleast once.
What Kyle had slipped into their conversation a few weeks ago had on her mind and she thought now would be a good time to clear the air before they became co-workers. She didn't anything weird hanging between them because that would just make things awkward and that was the last thing she wanted when she was around him. He, along with Maria and Alex, were the only normalcy she had in this place and she didn't want to disrupt that.
Liz looked like an eskimo as she waited for Kyle in the main lobby of the hospital that she worked at. She had lived in 14 cities since leaving Roswell ten years ago and had managed to skip winter in a lot of them. This was her first experience with it in a while and she was not a fan.
-
Kyle had been dreading meeting up with Liz because he still wasn't sure that he had the words to say to her, but it was much better than let it sit around, un-addressed. He knew that, but the simple thought of facing Liz after he had admitted that he still had feelings for her made his stomach churn. He wished that he could just leave it at that, but he couldn't. In truth, he didn't really want to. He wanted to be on a level with Liz where everything was left out on the table.
He did his best to look casual, yet semi-dressed up as he boarded the train to the Doom Republic and made his way to the hospital, minutes before Liz had asked to meet him out front. He was nervous for sure, but the fact that it was Liz that he was meeting somehow made him feel comfortable. It was a good give and take, but it still made him freak out a bit. When he saw her walking up to him he smiled warmly, holding his arms out to her.
-
She smiled when she saw him walk in and she walked towards him, going into his arms for a hug when she got to him. How could anyone deny that smile and those out stretched arms? It was impossible. "Hey you" She said as she wrapped her arms around him and hugged him. Now wanting to let it linger too long, she pulled away after a few minutes and reached up to push some hair out of her face. "So this is the front area of your new work place" She told him turning to gesture to the lobby. She was confident that he would get the job on Monday. "I'll give you an official tour once you get hired" She said with a smile as she turned back to him. Reaching up, the pulled her hook up onto her head then reached for one of the doors to leave. "Let's roll out. I'm starving"
-
Kyle chuckled as he lead Liz back to the train station. "I didn't mention you when I contacted Dr. Grey about the job. I didn't want it to sound like it was like that... even though it totally is," he admitted as they boarded the train together. "So do you think that this Crashdown is anything like ours?"
-
"Probably a good idea" Liz commented with a chuckle of her own as she walked along side him, hands going into her pocket. An unusual millennial, she wasn't even tempted to pull out her phone or check it at that moment. She was too into the company she was with to even think about it. "There seem to be some similarities between all of us so there's a high probability that will be with the Crashdown too. I mean, after all, it's been in the family for decades even in alternate universes" She pointed out as she moved to sit down in a section that didn't have too many people.(edited)
-
"Have you spoken to any of them much? I think that there was mention of a war from the other Kyle," he commented cautiously. He knew that anything that happened to the other versions of them could easily also happen to them. He was still unsure whether or not he trusted the aliens in their life, but he knew that Liz did, and that meant that Kyle would stand by her, even if it meant standing next to Max Evans.
-
"I haven't actually, other than Isabel" She replied as she sat back on the seat and turned towards him so they could talk easier. "I think it's all a little too weird for me, you know? I find myself wanting to separate myself from them and just live my own life, not compare it to theirs. All I know about them is what from what I read on the network" She told him with a shrug of her shoulders.
-
Kyle sighed, nodding. "As much as I'm eager to know all about them, I fear that I would just try to be like them. Just because we're similar, that doesn't mean we have to be the same."
-
"Yeah exactly" She agreed with a nod then her face lit up like she just remembered something. "Oh! I did talk to the other me's daughter when I first got here. Though, it was most her threatening me to stay away from her family than talking to me. I guess they're all pretty protective of each other"
-
"It does seem like they've been through a lot," Kyle frowned. "Which honestly scares me. I like my life. Sure, I'd e happy to be back in Roswell, but at least I'm here with you."
-
"I didn't even plan on staying in Roswell and now I'm stuck on an alien planet with no out" She mused with a sigh, laying her head back on the back of the seat in a dramatic way. "It sucks but I'm glad I'm here with you too. And Alex and Maria" She went on, lifting her head up after a moment.
-
"Yeah, but I guess if you really wanted to, you could move from city to city here," Kyle offered with a chuckle. He knew that he was being selfish about being happy that she was stuck here with him, but he wasn't about to brag about it. "It is nice having them here, as well."
-
"I did that enough over the past ten years" She replied with a laugh as she moved to get up because the train was slowing down at the Sunnydale stop. "Fourteen cities before I settled in Denver" She told, reaching up to hold onto pole so she couldn't fall over if there were any sudden jerks. She'd ridden on the subway enough to know what to expect.
-
Kyle nodded as they walked off of the train together. "So that means you're ready to settle down? I'd say home, but I guess that is a little relative now. Home can be whatever we make it."
-
"As much as I can here I guess" She replied with a shrug as she walked off with him. She had already accepted the fact that she couldn't leave so she was doing her best to settle in and get used to being on this strange planet. Max healing her and exposing himself as an alien to her almost prepared her for this because it shower her that things were not as she thought they were and that the supernatural existed. Now if only he would show up. "There it is" She told him after a few minutes of walking. It was hard to miss with a flying saucer sticking out of the building.
-
Kyle chuckled with a nod, "already feels like home." He smiled as they walked to the familiar looking building and walked inside. "I think I can learn to like it here."
-
"You can't steal fries from this place" She told him, pointing at him as they walked in together. She stopped just inside the door and looked around, taking it all in. The decor was different and layout was different but it had the same diner feel as her's at home did. It was so surreal.
-
"Noted," he nodded with a smirk. He knew that if the other Liz were anything like his, she may just attempt to mangle him with her bare hands for stealing from her restaurant. "Wonder if their menu is anything like yours."
-
"Let's find out" She replied, moving towards a table once she had enough time to talk it all in. There was one thing that was eerily similar; the uniforms. She wondered if the waitresses here hated wearing the hand band too. She only did it because her Papi asked her to. Grabbing the menu, she began looking over and nodded her head. "It's pretty close. I see some of the same names here"(edited)
-
Kyle nodded, "that does help a little. I'm sure that it has the same theme for the same reason. At least I know what I want to order."
-
"Ah but does the food taste the same? That's the real question here" She pointed out, closing the menu because she knew what she wanted too. It was easy when she grew up in a place just like this. Soon the waitress came over and took their orders then they were left to chit chat more until it came.
-
"Only one way to find out," Kyle took a deep breath before ordering and they continued talking through eating. Once they both finished, he sat back, looking across the table. "Not exactly, but enough to make me want to come back here," he stated with a confident nod.
-
"I might be back if I'm feeling homesick" Liz decided as she drank up the last of her milkyway milkshake. It would mean having to run into the others but she could always just get take out and eat it at home; she didn't have to stay every time. "I don't work tomorrow, what should we do with the rest of our night?" They still needed to talk about what they were both avoiding so she didn't want to end the night just yet.
-
"You want to go to my place so we can sit and talk?" He raised a eyebrow hopefully, then thought about what he said. "Just to talk of course," he chuckled. "Just don't necessarily need Maria possibly interrupting this conversation."
-
"You do know I'll tell her all about it later right?" She pointed out with a laugh as she nodded her head while putting her milkshake down. "Yeah that sounds like a good idea" She went on as she got some money out to pay.
-
"Next time is on me," he looked down, slightly ashamed that he didn't have much money yet. "But I know you will. Like I said, I just don't want her to interrupt. I may chicken out if she were to."
-
"Don't worry about it" Before Liz could do anything with her money, their waitress came over and told them about the first timer special, that their meal was on the house. She looked to Kyle for a moment then nodded her head. "Huh. Well alright" She commented, putting money down only for a tip before she got up. "Freedomtown?" She asked as they walked out together.
-
Kyle nodded, "I decided to take advantage of the offer they gave me while deciding which hospital I wanted to work for. So it's not much, but it's something."
-
"Maria and I were staying in a motel the first few days we got here while we figured things out" She told him as they walked back towards the train station together. It was so strange not having a car and having to rely on public transportation but she was getting used to it. Back on the train, it wasn't long before they were in Freedomtown and at Kyle's apartment door.
-
Kyle grinned as he unlocked the door and stood aside for her to walk in first. "Too good to stay in one of these before finding something?" he raised an eyebrow, following her inside and closing the door behind herself.
-
Walking in, Liz looked around at the quaint little apartment as he asked his question. "We didn't know which city we wanted to live in right away" She explained as she turned and started taking off her puffy coat. Now that they were inside she wouldn't need it anymore and she couldn't finally feel warm.(edited)
-
"I still don't," Kyle chuckled. "That's why I took them up on the offer to be put up in this little apartment here for the time being. I know that this isn't going to be where I stay. I figure come next week, I'm going to be house hunting somewhere near my new job."
-
"I'm pretty sure there's a place open near ours" She told him as she went to sit down on the couch after getting her boots off. There was no reason why she couldn't get comfortable in his place."We could be neighbors and borrow cups of sugar from each other" She went on as she sat back and got comfortable.
-
"That sounds very tempting, Doctor Ortecho," he smirked as he walked over to his little couch, that he had no intention of keeping when he went to a bigger place, and sat down. "It almost sounds like you're dreading this conversation as much as I am."
-
"It has to be done" She pointed out as she turned towards him. She had a inkling the he still had feelings for her when he tried to asked her out at home but to actually hear the words come out of his mouth were something else. It was time to clear the air and lay it all out on the table.
-
Kyle nodded, "well first off, I'm not sure if this is an 'all along' situation or more like seeing you brought it all back type of thing. I am leaning more toward the latter, though. Because you leaving without staying in touch was really hard on me, but once I got myself to focus on school, I began to move on."
-
"Let me just say I'm really sorry for that" Liz started, holding her hand over her heart as she looked at him in an apologetic manner. She didn't keep in touch with anyone while she was gone, really, except for her father her and there. She was always a daddys girl and that would never change.
-
"You weren't the only one who lost her, but I know what it did to you. I just didn't know that it was going to keep you away for as long as it did," he frowned. "I really missed you while you were away."
-
It broke Liz's hard to hear the sadness in his voice and it showed on her face as he kept on talking, her hand dropping to her lap. "I missed you too" She admitted, finding it easy to do. It had never been hard to talk to Kyle, which was one of the things she loved about their relationship then and now. It was always really easy. "You don't want to be with me, though. I'm a hot mess, Kyle. I'm not the same girl you dated in high school. Rosa's death ... it really screwed with me"
-
"And then there's the whole Max thing," Kyle nodded. "I get it. We're not kids anymore. I went to college, too. You have every right to not be in a good place after what happened. I know how close the two of you were." He paused, reaching over to take her hand, "but all of that doesn't mean that I can't care about you. You mean so much to me Liz."
-
"He isn't here. He doesn't matter right now" She replied quickly, almost sounding a little bitter about it. It had been weeks since all them showed up. Why was Max the only one not there with them? It wasn't fair, not just for her but for Michael and Isobel. They needed him more than she did. She smiled a little when he took her hand and she looked down at it for a moment before she looked back up at him. "I care about you too. I never stopped. I just ... I think I'm broken. I can't connect with anyone anymore. Did you know that I'm engaged to be married at home? And I left him to go to Roswell without a second thought or a goodbye. What kind of person does that?"
-
Kyle took a deep breath, sucking in his bottom lip. "Someone who has lost something and can't find that thing, nor the answers that they require to try and fill the void in their life. And also... your acceptance of that man's proposal must have been quite empty if you were able to leave him without a thought. I think..." he stopped himself, looking down.
-
She nodded her head ever so slightly as he analyzed what she said and gave his thoughts on it. Maybe he was onto something there and she'd just been trying to fill the void her sister's death and mother's leaving left for the past ten years. It would make a lot of sense. "You think what?" She asked, giving his hand a squeeze to encourage him to keep going.(edited)
-
"I think that maybe you were trying to force a bit of normalcy onto yourself. Like everything might fall into place if you made yourself do it," Kyle tilted his head a little. "Which is possibly plausible in theory, but you have to be strong enough to hold into the lie to actually make it into a possible reality. I think that we can both confidently say now that normal is completely overrated," he ended with a smile.
-
She listened carefully to his thoughts and by the end, she was smiling too. "Kyle Valenti, when did you get so smart? You sure you're not a psychologist wearing a surgeon's mask? You're making a lot of sense"
-
"I did take psychology and did rather well in it," Kyle shrugged with a smile. "This is all just coming from the heart, Liz. But last I knew, I got my PhD in surgical medicine."
-
"Color me surprised" She replied with a smiled. She had always known Kyle was destined for great things, even if he did become a doctor at first to prove something to his father. "So where do we go from here?" She asked with a small sigh.
-
"We don't have to jump into anything right away. There is no pressure there. I just want to be there for you. I want to help you..." he took a deep breath, looking into her eyes. "If you'll let me, of course."
-
She was quiet as she looked into his eyes, taking a moment to think about all of it. After that moment was up, she nodded her head as she moved in a little closer to him. "I think I'd be willing to give that a try. I've got nothing to lose right?" Either way she would still have Kyle in her life.
-
"Only if you're absolutely sure," Kyle nodded. "I don't want to be something you might later regret. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if that happened."
-
"I don't think they'll ever happen" She assured him with a shake of her head. Leaving the conversation there for the moment, she leaned in closer and touched her lips with his. It just felt like the right thing to do after all the talking they'd done and where they ended up at the end of their avoided conversation.
-
He chuckled softly as he returned the kiss and carefully brought an arm around her. He definitely wanted more, but he wasn't about to press into it unless it seemed as though it was what she wanted. He was going to let her take the lead.
-
When she felt him accept the kiss, she took that as a sign and continued with it, not pulling away right away. It was nice to be sober this time, as she barely remembered kissing him in the Wild Pony parking lot things to Maria feeding her shots while they caught up. That girl and her booze! Once she couldn't breath anymore, she pulled away enough for her forehead to be resting on his. "Remember when we almost had sex in the Wild Pony parking lot?"
-
A small, soft, single laugh escaped Kyle's breathless lips as he nodded. "Oh yes, I definitely remember that. It was probably for the best that you backed out that time."
-
"I don't want to back out this time" She told him boldly, pulling back a little bit so she could gauge his reaction. They had never said sex couldn't be part of things as they figure things out and he helps her work through things. Who knew, it may help move things along. If anything it would keep them being satisfied and that was not a bad thing this time.
-
At first, he couldn't believe what he was hearing. He had no idea which was this night was going to go. It had been a case expect the worst and hope for the best. "And I'm not going to stop you," by that time, he was on autopilot. He was still a somewhat young man, and it was hard to turn down a beautiful woman, especially one that he had feelings for.
-
"I can't believe we were both avoiding this conversation" Liz commented with a laugh as she moved to sit in his lap just like she did at the Wild Pony. This time she was much more comfortable with out the steering wheel at her back. "We should never do that again" She decided as she leaned in to kiss him again.
-
"I agree," he nodded, placing his hand on her hips. "I want to be able to be open and honest with each other. No secrets."
-
"No secrets" She agreed as she pulled back, her shirt coming off and hitting the floor to show there was a black bra hiding under her wear. "Only open and honest communication. Whatever I tell Alex and Maria, I'll tell you. Feels good to have you back in my inner circle" She told him with a smile as she settled into his lap.
-
"With a few added benefits," he smirked, licking his lips before pulling his shirt up and over his head, tossing it aside as well. "I'm just happy to have you back in my life."(edited)
-
"That I can't help with the others" She commented with a smirk of her own. Liz couldn't help but start paying attention to this abs as soon as his shirt was off. He'd been working out a lot since the last time she saw him shirtless and she appreciated it. "Get outta the way McDreamy, Dr Abs it in the house" She commented with a grin. After a moment she looked up at him. "I am too"
-
"Well, I'm not going to try for something like this with them," he teased before leaning in and kissing her neck. "This can be all for you."
-
"Definately don't unless you want to be struck down by Michael Guerin for going after Alex" She told him with a laugh, throwing her head back as she did so he would have better access. "Damn right"
-
"I really don't want that," he shook his head, gently sucking on the hollow part of her neck. "I'm not about to find out what Michael is able to do."
-
"That's enough about Michael" She decided, completely distracted by what he was doing. These marks were going to be fun to explain to Maria tomorrow and she was completely fine with that. She was going into knowing what she was getting into. "And talking in general" She added on as her hand moved towards his pants.
-
Kyle nodded, completely agreeing on all fronts. He didn't want to waste any more time. He allowed her to undo his pants as he ran his fingers along the waistband of her pants.
-
They spent the rest of the night getting reacquainted with each other's bodies and becoming one again for the first time in ten years. By the time the time they were all done, Liz was spent and too tired to get her clothes on and make the journey back to her place so she decided to just sleep over. They'd ended up in his bed at some point during the night so she had no problem falling asleep and sleeping until morning.
-
As happy as he was that Liz had spent the night, Kyle was still surprised that she had. He had been expecting her to make her way out once they were finished and she recovered enough to get dressed. He didn't mind, though. It just meant that he would prepare himself to expect it to happen more often. When he woke up he smiled, stretching and yawning before slipping into the bathroom and spending a couple of minutes in there composing himself before heading back to the bedroom to see if she was awake yet to greet her.
-
The movement of him getting up out of bed woke Liz up and she began to stir. By the time he came back in, she was sitting up stretching and rubbing her eyes. "Morning" She told him so casually like it was no big deal that she slept over. To her, it wasn't so she had no idea what he thought about it. "You should definitely take this bed with you when you move" She said as she spread her hands out on the sheets. "It's pretty comfy"
-
Kyle nodded with a grin. "I'd have to agree. I really lucked out with this one." He looked for a clean pair of boxer briefs and pulled them on. "I also have to say that I enjoyed sleeping with you in my arms. It felt right."
-
When he moved around and got dressed, she sat back and took one more look at him in all his glory before he covered himself up. She was really glad she was sober last night so she could remember everything. It was so much better being able to leave with those memories than a fuzzy aftermath. "It did feel right, didn't it? Like old times. The entire night did. I can still smell the nostalgia" She said as she moved to get up because she knew she couldn't fit there all day even though she didn't have to work. "Where did my panties end up?" She asked as she began looking around for them.
-
Kyle chuckled as he looked around. "Good thing this apartment is small," he walked over to the lamp in the living room, plucking her panties off of the lampshade and smirking before turning back to Liz. "Head's up," he warned before tossing them into her direction. "Am I the only one wondering how things are unfolding back home?"
-
As she watched him go out into the living room, she decided everything else must be out there. A quick look around told her that was true. All the clothes coming off were kind of a blur to her after their shirts came off. Catching the panties, she put them on then headed into the living as she responded to him. "I don't know if that's happening. From what I understand, time freezes at home when we come here" She replied as she looked for the rest of her clothes. As she found each one, she put them on and soon she was fully dressed. Walking over to her coat, she pulled her phone out of it and sighed. "Can I use your charger? I'm dead" She told him, holding it up to show him the screen was black.
-
Kyle nodded, "I think that I got lucky. I normally plug mine in overnight out of habit, but it's fine for now." He motioned over to his charger. "But I thought that people can come from the same reality, but from different times?"
-
When he motioned to the charger, she moved over and plugged her phone in then she turned to get her shoes on as they continued talking. When he said what he did, she stopped in her tracks and took a moment to think then she looked over at him. "I don't know. All of this confuses me. Time travel wasn't something I really studied in college" She shook her head a little bit then moved to sit down on the couch and put her shoes on.(edited)
-
"Well, back home time travel was science fiction," Kyle shrugged, walking over to the bed and sitting on it. "But then again, the aliens were supposed to be, as well."
-
"I'm glad they're not. I like being alive" She commented as she stood up after getting her shoes back on. Walking back over to her phone, she pull it off the charger and turned it on, laughing when she heard her text message sound going off over and over again. "Guess who I forgot to check in with last night?" She commented to him, walking over to sit on the bed with him so he could look at the dozens of messages from Maria with her. "I definitely should not stay long" She told him as she texted 'doughnuts?' to her as a conversation starter. Doughnuts were a good way to start smoothing things ever.
-
Kyle nodded with a sigh, "as much as I am confident in my abilities, I fear that I may have not been able to save you had Max not." It was hard for him to admit that little bit, because that would mean that he was grateful for something that the competition had done for her, and it was a little hard on his ego. When he heard Liz's alerts going off, he laughed, "tell Maria it was my fault. I can take the heat."
-
"I think you could have" Liz replied, showing her own confidence in his abilities. He was a brilliant doctor and if anyone could have saved her, it would have been him. "Are you sure you want to suffer the wrath Maria DeLuca?" She asked as she stood back up and pocked her phone as she walked over to grab her coat. "I'll see you later, Valenti. Thanks for last night. I'm glad you're here with me" She told him as she slipped on her coat. Giving him one last look and a wave, she opened the door and headed back into the real world.
