It's About Time
Who: Tony and Carol
Where: Stark Tower
When: After this post
What: Tony asks something right for a change
After talking to Chelle, he decided that he had to find Carol, but not for the reasons that anyone might think. Instead, he decided that now was the perfect time to propose. If he didn't do it soon, he was going to accidentally spoil the surprise of it. Rocket had helped him find what he decided was an appropriate gem, and he'd made a ring for it. Ring now in his pocket, he wandered the tower to find what (he hoped) was going to be his future wife.
"Chewie..." Carol called out, standing in the doorway of the bedroom she shared with Tony. "C'mon sweetheart. Rocket didn't mean it when he said he still wanted to shoot you..." Crossing her arms, she mumbled to herself, "I swear I'm gonna make a scarf outta that trash panda..."
Tony snorted, looking her over. "Can you go call him a trash panda? I love how he reacts to when people call him names." He glanced back toward the bedroom. "Did you check under the bed?"
"That's where she is." Carol grumbled, turning to look at him. "I know Rocket is our friend, but why does he relish being a jackass so much?" She sighed, before leaning in to give him a little kiss on the cheek. "Also? Hi."
"Because he's an emotionally stunted trash panda," Tony pointed out, smiling. After she kissed him, he wrapped his around around her waist from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder. "Other than Rocket being an ass, how's your day been?"
"Not bad. I was thinking about heading to the welcome center to help out a little..." She laughed, rolling her eyes as she realized why she was considering it. "I guess once you've done the heroing thing long enough, you always need to feel like you're helping somehow. How about you?"
"Day's been interesting. Got to make fun of Chelle for thinking she could drink Asgardian mead and not wake up with the worst hangover in existence." Yeah, Tony had made that mistake, too. You did not mess with intergalactic alcohol, no matter how much of a drunk you were. "Nothing wrong with going out and doing other types of heroing, though." His hold tightened on her a little. "Think I can get you to put it off until tomorrow, though?"
"It's kinda cute how you two basically act like kids around each other." Carol pointed out, giving him a lopsided smile. Some women might be jealous at the chemistry Rachelle and Tony had. But Carol trusted him implicitly. "And sure... got something in mind? Besides the usual." She said, wagging her eyebrows.
"We do seem to have the emotional maturity of foul-mouthed five year-olds around one another," he admitted with a laugh. Maybe in another universe, he and Chelle could have been something more than friends (here he knew better than to even think of dismissing the multi-verse theory), but here he had Carol and it wouldn't even occur to him to do anything to endanger that.
"I do have something in mind, actually," he said, sliding around her and dropping down to one knee, reaching for her hand. Yeah, he was going traditional with this one. Sometimes it was a classic for a reason. "Carol, you're an amazing, strong, beautiful woman that, if I were a religious man, I'd thank the gods every day for. I know some people here dream of the day they can go home or at least are fine with going back, but there's no going back for me. My home is wherever you are. I didn't know it at the time, but it's been that way since the day we first talked. So, Carol Danvers, will you do me the honor of marrying me?" He pulled the ring out of his pocket, a band that he had created himself (with metal able to stand up to her abilities) set with a Ascendant Crystal that their favorite trash panda had been nice enough to get.
She stared at him for a moment, somewhere between shocked and impressed. Finally, a small smirk formed on her lips as she pulled him to his feet. "Tony Stark. You mad genius you. Yes. Of course I'll marry you." She said happily, before practically PULLING him in for a big, happy kiss before giving him her hand.
When she gave him her hand, he slipped the ring on her finger, relieved that he had gauged her size right. He kissed her again, wrapping her up in a hug. "Rocket helped me with the gem, so maybe forgive him today for being an asshole."
She laughed, then. A loud, raucous laugh that threatened to bring tears to her eyes. Finally, she hugged him again, an overwhelmed, full-of-love whisper coming from her. "Maybe just this once. Also? I'm not changing my name. So there."
"Kind of always thought of that as a weird old tradition anyway," he replied with a shrug. He hadn't even thought of her doing that, to be honest. "Honestly, at this point, I'm just happy that I didn't spoil the surprise online somehow." He could have found a way to do it.
"Well, kudos for not asking me over a network post at least. Not gonna like, proud as hell there." Oh, he was never gonna live that down, was he? She winked, hip-bumping him with a chuckle. "Well, I know two people who are probably going to be even more excited than we are..."
"Yeah, I will never, ever live down asking that in a moment of excitement." He'd just been excited about having a home to live in again and asked her to move in impulsively. So, something totally like him. Hell, while he'd been planning on the ring for a while, he wanted to wait and ask her when the mood felt right. Tonight happened to feel right. He grinned at her then. "Wanna go tell them?" he asked.
"Sandra first. I wanna see if she explodes like a bundle of fireworks. My guess is 'yes'." It was sweet in a way - they both loved both of their future-kids equally, yet somehow Carol was closer to Sandra, and Tony was closer to Brandon.
"She might actually explode in fireworks, though. I know when she's mad she blows things up." Maybe it was just her still raging hormones, but Sandra's abilities seemed to still be somewhat connected to her emotions. "Let's go tell her then," he said with a laugh.
She looked at him as she laughed, as the gravity of the situation hit her: this man was going to be her husband. A huge smile spread across her face as she leaned in to hug him tightly. "I love you, Tony."
"I love you, too," he said, hugging her back. He couldn't imagine being anywhere else in any version of the universe right now. Despite the craziness of this place, it was moments like this that showed him that his life was absolutely perfect.
