Sookie wanted to tell him that she was a fairy and she could take care of herself. That she had fairy powers that he could use in a battle. She wanted to tell him about the monsters she'd fought back in Bon Temps and how she'd cut the head of Renee like a snake, but Sookie kept silent while he talked. Better for him to think she was normal. Telling him the truth really wouldn't do any good.
She took off her shoes so she could feel the grass under her feet. She loved the way it felt. "I guess you're right," Sookie said softly, "but if something happens and you need me, you promise to call me?" She had to give it one more try.
"I'm glad we have you on the side of good, who knows what you've kept from happening. What you do is so very important."
