Who: Michiru & Kate Where: Xavier Memorial Hospital, front lobby When: During the monster attack
While the heroes that had gathered in Monstropolis had been doing a remarkable job of containing the giant monster within the city... a few of the parasite living on the creature had managed to make their way across the border to Freedomtown. And what was the first major thing they would come across? Xavier Memorial Hospital.
Right now, inside the hospital's main lobby, Michiru sat with Kate, above all trying to comfort the girl, because really, who WOULDN'T be scared with the whole "big freakin' monster" issue going on?
"I promise you, dearest... I won't let anything hurt you. I swear to you."
Kate had seen the video of what had been attacking Monstropolis and she was beyond terrified. There were no monsters or anything remotely scary other than bad people in her world, so simply seeing the carnage that had entered the hospital the past two weeks had her on edge. She knew that such things were possible in this world, but seeing as how she was just a simple human, without any sort of combat training, she knew that she would be a goner if anything came near her. So after the first attack, Kate made sure that she was never alone. In fact, she stayed near Michiru as much as she possibly could, knowing that her girlfriend could defend her.
As the chaos came near them, Kate was a blubbering mess. She knew that Michiru would do everything that she could to protect her, but there was a small part of Kate who feared that it may not be enough. She clung to Michiru, hoping to be able to just wish everything away. Or that the gem would grow tired of torturing the citizens of Galador, and all of the monsters would simply go away to whence they came.
"I know, but can't they just go away, so we won't have to worry about that?" Kate frowned.
"They will, Kate. Whether the gem takes them, or whether I destroy every last one. They will leave and they will NOT harm you." Michiru felt an eyebrow go up then, as she heard some kind of commotion going on right outside the main entrance. She stood, and glanced out the window to the ER, just in time to see Eve Drake begin bleeding from the eyes... and then her glance went to the outside, where now several of the parasite creatures were crawling their way toward the hospital. She wanted to run out there and fight. But she also knew her powers weren't quite like they were here. In this place, they were erratic. More devastating. More like a dangerous weapon that nobody should be handling.
But she also knew exactly what she had to do.
"Kate, I need you to listen to me. There are small creatures. Quite a few of them. Right outside those front doors. If they get in here, all the doctors, all the patients.... and most importantly, you, will be in grave danger. I've got to go out there."
Kate took a deep breath, nodding. She looked up to see Eve come in and deep in her stomach, she knew that what Michiru was saying was possibly leading into a 'good-bye'. She looked to Magnus and Elliot helping her daughter's friend inside and pointed to an available bed before giving her girlfriend a nod. She took a deep breath, standing up. "Promise you'll come back to me."
Michiru closed her eyes. She had promised Kate that she would never lie to her, for ANY reason. She looked up at her girlfriend, placing a palm on her cheek. She took a long moment to memorize every feature of Kate's face. That smile that had knocked her off her feet the first time they met. This was not going to be easy. "Kate... you managed to do something I never thought possible. You came in with your beauty, your talent, your intelligence... and you managed to make me realize that my heart did NOT begin and end with Haruka Tenoh. You took my heart and not only healed it... but made it your own. And I am going out there to make sure you are safe. To protect you with every part of me, And more than likely... I won't be coming back. This is not a decision I make lightly. I wanted to be yours. Forever. I envisioned us growing old together, happily married. But it's more important for me to know you are safe."
She leaned in, giving Kate a long, loving kiss, before pulling back, a tear sliding down her cheek.
"I love you, Kate Messner. I love you so much I don't know how my heart handles it."
Kate nodded slowly. "I'd rather know love and lose it than to never have felt the way that I do when I am with you. I may not like what you are about to do, but I understand."
She took a deep breath, "go. The needs of the many and all that," she waved her girlfriend off, attempted to play it off as if it wasn't effecting her nearly as deeply as it was.
"I'll find you, Kate. Whether in this world or the next... I promise I will find you." Michiru said, before standing. She closed her eyes, holding one hand in the air as she shouted, "Neptune Planet Power.... Make-Up!"
With an almost blinding light, the girl's outfit changed to that of Sailor Neptune, as she stared one last time at the other girl, then walking toward the doors.
As she got outside, she looked at the parasites. There were roughly 20-25 of them, all ready to attack. She knew if they got into the hospital it would be a disaster. Focusing all the protective instincts she had into one attack, she threw her hand out toward the beasts, yelling out "DRAGON..... RISE!"
Water from the nearby ocean began to rise into the sky, taking the form of a giant dragon, easily the size of the monster that had just been slain in Monstropolis. Michiru closed her eyes as the dragon wave crashed violently into the area, with such force that anything hit by it would be destroyed on impact. When the water cleared.... it left behind the bodies of the parasite, dead and broken.... and that of Michiru herself.
After the doors closed, Kate turned away, trying to be brave and looked for Kylie and went to check on Eve. She listened as her girlfriend called upon her powers and heard the tidal wave washed over the area. She dropped to her knees, her heart seeming to know the exact moment that she lost Michiru and burst out into fresh tears.
