Alisha was at the end of her goddamn rope. If she had to see one more hormone-charged teenage romance drama, she was 100% sure that she would scream. It was everywhere she looked lately, and annoying as fuck. She felt like she was literally the only teenager on the entire fucking planet who wasn't obsessed with relationships or hooking up. What she wouldn't give for some batshit crazy villain to show up right now just to give everyone some fucking perspective again. Also, she figured a good fight would help her work out some of her frustrations. But she knew the chances of that happening were slim to none. And even if someone showed up, the ten thousand other adult superheroes here would probably tell her to sit her ass down anyway. She decided that she needed some air. Conjuring a pen and paper, Alisha scribbled a note to her dad letting him know where she was going. She taped it to the outside of his study door, where he was sure to see it. Then she slipped on her leather jacket and headed out into the night. With her sling-ring, she could have traveled anywhere, but instead she opted to just wander the streets of Freedomtown for awhile. It was a cool evening out, with a slight breeze that tousled her black hair around her shoulders. Stars twinkled overhead and it was serenely quiet out. She inhaled deeply a few times, and it helped her take some of the edge off. She could feel herself beginning to relax. Finally. She stopped in a convenient store to get herself a soda, then wandered over to the park. At this time of night on a Thursday, it was all but deserted. Perhaps she'd sought it out subconsciously as a way to escape people. Or maybe she was just hoping some random baddie would show up via the gem and she'd get first crack at him. Regardless, Alisha sat in the grass at the base of a large tree. Between her black clothes and hair, she blended into the shadows nicely. She pulled her phone out of her jacket pocket and fitted the metallic green earbuds into her ears. She pressed play on one of her favorite songs and let the music and the night carry her away from everything for awhile. |
