Who: Professor Shields & the evening class What: Combat Training Where: Simulation room #3, Training Center, Freedem University When: Thursday December 28th, 2009 - Thread beginning at 7:40pm Rating: ? Status: In progress
The day before had been spent talking over what each student was looking to get out of this class. What they wanted to learn. They'd begin the class learning one thing that they wanted to know how to use. Inanna allowed the students back into one of the weapons stores and let each kid pick out one weapon. If anyone tried grabbing two they had been told to put one back. No one was started with the two handed thing. You learn how to use a weapon with one hand, properly before you start attempting to divide your attention to using two weapons at once, especially a new weapon that you had no previous training with as she had strongly encouraged every member of the group to do. No guns were allowed for the first part of the course, they were too dangerous for a 'beginning weapon' choice with kids who had little to no experience with weapons at all. Even the kids who boasted proficiency with a weapon had no extensive combat training with the item and she's put money on that bet.
Yesterday had been spent, picking out weapons, talking about the pro's and con's of every choice, the benefits and losses of training with one type over another. The intricate methods of maintaining and cleaning the weapon and by that point it had been time for a break. When class had reconvened they had started going over basic stances, forms, positioning and a slow walk through of proper swings or aiming for each individual student. It had almost felt like they got no where but at the same time, the beginnings of weapons training was always slow. Each student was being walked through on their weapon choice and the choice each teammate had made. In that instance all the students, if sent off in a group could use any weapon carried by the others in the group at any point, if needed. The kids might not have seen it that way, and Inanna wouldn't blame them if they hadn't but when the realization did occur, they would be thankful.
Today, the first half of the class had been spent going over the basics again. How to hold, move, swing, aim and general use instruction of the each student's chosen weapon. After the basic instruction was given students were asked to go through a series of movements repetitively for the rest of the first part of the course that evening with professor Shields going around and correcting any problems in stance or form. Using a weapon untrained could make someone a bigger danger than any enemy might ever be.
The standard half an hour break was given, in which Inanna went over the roster again. She had all ready planned the second part of the class but assigning specifics she had held off on. Being an odd number of participants in the class she'd need someone to sit out or take on two people at once. Unfortunately the number of well trained combatants wasn't even. Sighing eyes skimmed over the roster again. Who to pair with who was the question. Which kids were about equal level in fighting ability...? The kids made it back in and simulation running began. The simulations were simple in design though she knew the program would prove difficult to achieve the objective. A computer generated image of a person, who could move, duck and weave around had a red dot somewhere on it's body that would be visible, the student had to touch their weapon of choice to the dot on the ghostly computer generated person to achieve a 'point'. When each student managed to achieve 10 points their simulation ended and they could take a rest until the next piece of the class that evening. Where each dot was random generated by the computer so no one student got an image with the dot on their 'enemy' in the same place as anyone else or in the same place twice. Some of the simulated ghost like formed 'people' of the simulation had the dot on their head, some on their chests and for the harder dots, the dot became smaller and if you just happened to be lucky it could end up in the palm of the simulations hand or on the bottom of their foot.
As the kids dove around, trying to attack the barely formed tumblers Inanna moved around making comments on form and swing style with the weapons. Sometimes having to yell at someone from across the room for a dangerous or nonsensical maneuver. "Keep your elbow in!", "Don't swing so wide!", "Roll your shoulder less!", "Loosen your grip!", "Tighten your grip!", "Keep that foot on the floor!"... There was so much work that had to be done here... Nearing the end of this period she was starting to feel more like a drill instructor barking orders than a professor trying to help the kids learn... and honestly? She probably hadn't come off much different than a drill instructor. However... These were things that these kids needed to know.
Letting the last kid finally finish off their 'opponent' Inanna called all the kids attention. "For the last twenty minutes of this course you're going to be sparring with one another." She waited for a moment expecting a whine before continuing. "I am assigning your partners. Takahashi Sensei and Ty. Sayuri and Liadan. Blaze and Locke. Emma and Mags. Professor Wantanabe will be on standby to dive in, in case anyone slips up." Glancing over she looked directly at Touya. "You're on me." An almost casual look was given back to the rest of the class, a drastic difference in her demeanor from the entire time. "Please break off into your groups and make sure there is at least sixty feet between your sparring group and the next closest sparring group. We don't want any extra complications." Giving a nod to Keiko she moved away from the main group, signaling for Touya to follow her to an area a ways back from the group. 'For the greater good.' Rolling her shoulders and cracking her neck Inanna remained bare handed before nodding at Touya. "Ready when you are." tick, Tick, TICK.
Dropping low into a fighting stance she raised her hands up, legs readying for movement. "For truth." She murmured underneath her breath. "And for liberation." With each set of words another power activated 'We are all servants of the cause.' and eyes narrowed for a moment as she peered at the boy in front of her. Waiting and deciphering.
(OOC note regarding reply order: Each group as Inanna has told them to pair off would be their own line, however, this is taking place all in the same room, therefore people can reply to another's line. Keep in mind that the room is huge, there is enough room for each group to be 60' apart and there are 5 groups, therefore this room is at least 360' (120 yards). Be reasonable in doing this, If Ty's on the complete opposite side of the room from Blaze she's not going to hear anything Blaze would be saying and since each student is in combat they are going to be focused on what they are doing, not what everyone else in the entire room is doing.
Additional Note: All weapons that the students are using have been magically enchanted to cause only non-lethal damage.)
