Who: Ty & Emma What: Getting Coffee Where:JavaJoe'sCornerCafe When: Dec 1st, 2009 - Afternoon (Backdated) Rating: Clueless (Ty - What's new, really?) and Naughty (Emma) Status: Almost complete
metallicseraph: She sighed. Why was she doing this? Pulling the last book out of her pack and placing it in a pile of materials organized from largest to smallest in size on a stack on her desk Ty went over the reasons in her mind again. Because this was what people did to get to know each other, because this was how people made friends, because this was what normal people did. Eyes shifted closed for a moment and she rubbed them. She'd go, she'd do this, she'd pretend to be normal for a little while. Though, maybe what she'd spent most of her life doing was pretending to be normal. Maybe she could just be her self in this circumstance... Let the years of silence fall away. The thought scared her like nothing else in her life. Shaking her head eyes opened. Pushing the books for a second she assured their perfect order by being aligned so that each books binding was perfectly aligned with the one below it, fingers running over the backs for a second. With a sigh she patted her own pockets down, checking for everything she needed. Yup, that was it. She was ready. Slipping out her own bedroom she made sure the door clicked closed behind her before heading down the hall all of 15' feet and inhaling she sighed for a third time before knocking on the other's door.
Sinful Affinity: Fingertips tapped at the edge of her nightstand with a frustrated sigh. She had to get this outline done before next week and the more time it took, the more Emma would drive herself crazy with worry. Half way there was progress and realistically she had plenty of time but she just couldn't shake the anxiety. A knock at the door startled the redhead, eyes snapping toward the panel as she saved the document again. Shutting down her machine she shouted, "be right th-there!" It could only be one of two people and either way she'd be leaving the dorms for a bit. Collecting the items sitting atop the small wooden nightstand, she slipped them into her pockets and surveyed the area one more time for anything she might have missed. Once convinced she was ready, the slender redhhead made her way to the door and pulled it open with a bright smile. "H-Hi."
metallicseraph: Pivoting to the side she gave a curt nod to the other. "Hey." Pausing for a moment a nod of the head was then given. "Ready?"
Sinful Affinity: Emma's eyes brightened in a way any onlooker might call swooning as she nodded, slowly stepping out of her room and locking it up. Turning toward the gorgeous brunette she inquired, "h-how are you t-today?"
metallicseraph: Waiting a beat for the door to be taken care of Ty's brows rose as she waited for the other to appear ready. WIth the turn Ty nodded again and stuffing her hands in the jean pockets so that thumbs remained resting outside of the pockets she began to walk. "Fine." Waiting a moment longer she then tacked on. "You?"
Sinful Affinity: "G-Good," she replied, trying not to stare at the beautiful RA too long as she would probably end up tripping over her own feet and making a complete fool of herself. "H-How was your h-holiday?"
metallicseraph: Ty shrugged. Not really wanting to get into the topic her best defense came up. "We're Italian, so it was just a normal week." They did somewhat celebrate, nothing huge like the Americans. Not that Ty wasn't technically American her self.
Sinful Affinity: 'Italian, huh? Interesting,' the Empath mused. "W-Was your trip into Boston fruitful? I-I hear it-it's an interesting p-place, th-though I've only been th-there once or twice." General topics seemed to be the best starting point for conversation, at least until she could gauge what made the other woman uncomfortable.
metallicseraph: Ty nodded, before taking the shot bend around and down the stairs, taking the first couple steps normally she jumped down to the small platform before jumping down to the platform at the main large section of stairs that lead the first floor up towards the second. "It's a good place..." She paused for a moment. "It's got a lot of good bars."
Sinful Affinity: Following intently the small jumps widened her smile. So far things were going well, now she just had to keep it that way. Not far behind the althetic woman, she replied cheerfully, "r-really? Maybe sometime you could sh-show me around. Th-The last time I-I went my parents were th-there so it was very. . .PG." She let out a small laugh, remembering all the funny faces her dad had made at some of the establishment names.
metallicseraph: Ah crap. Ty actually wasn't a big traveler of the city. She'd spent a lot of time there growing up due to her fathers profession and a lot of weekend trips attempting to get in trouble like any normal teenager, but giving a tour was probably one of the last things she'd ever be capable of doing. "I'm sure everyone knows a different place since there's so many of them." Parents. Yikes.
Sinful Affinity: "P-Probably, but it-it would be nice to-to visit some decent bars," she replied softly, wondering what other places Ty might have taken interest in. She wasn't much into the bar scene but it did have a certain appeal and if it meant more time with the beauty then she was so there. "S-So where are we off to-to?" she wondered curiously.
metallicseraph: Pushing the door open to the outside of the dorms a perplexed look crossed Ty's face. She didn't glance back at Emma but at the same time her mind tried to process the question. "Cherries or Java Joe's if you want coffee." The twinge of confusion still stuck with her voice but she was trying her best to let it slide.
Sinful Affinity: She hadn't been out for coffee around here enough to remember names, only vague ideas of how to get there and she was sure only one of those was where she'd been a time or two. "D-Do you have a p-preference?" Emma could go for anything about now, hot or cold and she added on, "if-if you're in th-the mood for something a little stronger I-I wouln't mind but I-I'm afraid I don't know th-the business hours of th-the local places. S-Still taking it all in."
metallicseraph: Ty shrugged. "Java Joe's has food, tea, coffee. Cherry's has booze and sweets. Jave Joe's is smaller, Cherry's is more." She paused, looking for the right words. "Classy I guess." Another pause fell. "Java Joe's is cheaper and closer."
Sinful Affinity: "Just wh-what a collage kid can afford. I like th-the sounds of that," sideways smile at Ty. "If-If you don't mind me asking, wh-what brings you to-to Freedem? I-I mean, aside from th-the um, obvious."
metallicseraph: "Cherry's has coffee too." The comment was an after thought really. She'd realized it wasn't as implied as it had originally intended to be, but whatever. A nod was taken before Ty headed in the direction of Purington hall and up towards the gym and Merril Hall. "Me?" She paused for a moment. The next most obvious answer would be her parents, not that she ever talked about them. "The majors offered."
Sinful Affinity: "Oh? I-I was drawn here by th-the same th-thing. H-have you decided on one?" She couldn't help asking slightly personal questions but there was a definate line Emma wouldn't cross unless it was very clear her companion was ok with it. While she herself was a pretty open book, not everyone could be or would be and she respected that.
metallicseraph: Ty nodded in response to the question feeling as though that would answer the question completely. Hands remained in her pockets as feet moved against the pavement with ease, sticking to well outlined paths instead of cutting across grass.
Sinful Affinity: "Are you a-always this vague?" she teased with a laugh. "I-I've decided on teaching. Th-There's something refreshing about ch-children." Keeping pace with Ty, she added, "and you?" Maybe a little prying couldn't hurt but she was keeping an eye on the woman in case something the Empath said didn't go over well.
metallicseraph: Ty glanced at Emma with a new look of confusion. Her first instinct was to comment on how she had answered Emma's question but a lot of people Ty had come to find had bigger expectations then they actively voiced. Were she didn't however, she tended to forget a lot. "Teaching, general elementary education."
Sinful Affinity: "Wow, th-that's wonderful. Art h-here." Smiling sweetly, eyes darted away to observer their surroundings. It was a nice day out, though a bit chilly for the native Californian. She swore the weather was something she'd never get use to but it wasn't much different than Jersey. "Any p-particular reason?'
metallicseraph: Ty nodded again at the response. The cool air wasn't a big deal for the nearly Bostonian. Soon it would be and soon she wouldn't be able to be metal outside for fear of freezing her insides, literally. A couple thoughts fluttered through Ty's head at the question but she shrugged and gave the simple answer. "I like kids."
Sinful Affinity: "Th-They do have a certain charm. M-Much easier to-to get along with if-if you ask me," she agreed with a nod. And now another topic, but what? Pondering, she went out on a limb. "S-So. . .um, are you f-from around here?"
metallicseraph: Once more Ty nodded in agreement. Kids were easier, oh so much easier. They had simple logic. Even if sometimes it still didn't make much sense because well, children were illogical creatures if looked at from an adult mind. However, when looked at from the perspective of urge driven uncontrolled desire, children were simple. Very simple and that's how Ty liked it. "Yeah. You?"
Sinful Affinity: The shake of her head rbought more words forward, "Californian th-through and th-through b-but we've been in J-Jersey going on eight y-years now." A pained look moved over her face but she covered it flawlessly, rubbing her hands together and continuing the conversation. "But it's b-beautiful here."
metallicseraph: "Touristy." The tourist season had just begun to wind down after all. Though people were one thing that it seemed like Ty would never get used to. "It'll clear up soon, but that's because gets so cold."
Sinful Affinity: With a nod she gave the shorter woman a sideways smile, "yeah, all th-the snowbirds fly to th-the west coast th-this time of year. Kinda miss h-home sometimes but th-the snow makes up for it."
metallicseraph: "Or Florida." A glance was given with a brow raising. "Snow makes up for it?"
Sinful Affinity: "Snowbirds are th-the older people wh-who can't h-handle or d-don't like th-the cold so th-they go places like Cali a-and Arizona since th-the weather is warmer," she explained. "I-I miss California b-but it-it's so beautiful when it-it snows here is wh-what I meant. I-I'm sure I-I've gone and confused you th-though." Frowning to herself a little, she considered another topic change.
metallicseraph: A slight smile arose at the corners of her mouth. "Man, you haven't been here long. Florida is one of the favorite hot spots for older snow haters. Cheaper." A brow rose and the slight smile disappeared when she shrugged. "Never cared for winter."
Sinful Affinity: Chuckling, she gave a nod. "Well, th-that makes more sense. You learn s-something new every day." Watching the faint smile fade from the other woman's face it saddened the Empath a bit. She hadn't really seen Ty smile all that much and witnessing a glimmer of it was a wonderful sight. Perhaps one day she could get a full smile out of the brunette. "Not a f-fan of th-the cold myself but I-I do enjoy watching th-the snow from a window wh-while all snug under a blanket."
metallicseraph: A nod was given in response once again. "To each their own." The details of her disdain for the cold would be kept to her self unless further interest was clearly stated.
Sinful Affinity: Rasing a brow, she asked curiously after a moment, "so wh-what do you have against Mr. Winter?"
metallicseraph: Brows knit for a moment. "You ever hear all those stories about kids sticking their tongues to metal poles and stuff? Metal gets cold."
Sinful Affinity: Well, couldn't find a better reason than that. Emma hadn't even considered the other mutant's powers, previously wondering if the woman had a bad experience as a child. But the small bit of information made things fit. Just like fire had proven to be harmful to Ty's health, cold could do just the same. "Yikes, good p-point." Rubbing hands together again until they warmed a little, she then pushed them into her jacket pockets and filed away the information. "So. . ." she began, mind racing through a million topics but lacking the ability to choose just one. "Any g-good concerts th-this winter?"
metallicseraph: Ty shrugged. "I don't keep up with concerts much." Eyes wondered up the path ahead of them. The walk wasn't long really but sometimes it felt like it took forever really. "Was thinking of seeing if The Pretty Reckless are doing any shows over break though."
Sinful Affinity: "I-I only r-really pay close attention to-to a few artists but I-I'm always up for new music," she replied with a nod. Listening intently, the Empath smirked. "Everything looks better when the sun goes down. Th-They're awesome. If-If you find anything would you let m-me know? I-I'd love to catch th-them live if I-I'm in town."
metallicseraph: "Mm." Scanning the path ahead of them she was admittedly surprised it hadn't snowed more yet, but then again, the weather was always weird in New England. A look of pure confusion crossed Ty face at the first sentence. Something in her wanted to ask what the heck the other was talking about, sun going down? Emma was a mutant right? "Sure." She paused for a moment. "Wouldn't hold my breath though. They don't do much I don't think."
Sinful Affinity: Ty's confussion was adorable and she answered the unasked question as she'd intentionally provoked the reaction. "It-It's from Make Me W-Wanna Die. And th-thanks. I-I really appreciate th-that. I-I don't imagine th-they do but one can always h-hope. Never know wh-when you'll get lucky." They'd be getting to the coffee place soon and with any luck they could continue talking about music. She felt like she was talking about herself an aweful lot but Ty didn't appear bothered by that so at least the Empath hadn't screwed it up yet.
metallicseraph: An absent nod was the simple response to the other woman's words. Talking. So not Ty's thing really. It was a shame sometimes though, it made it so awkward when it came to social interaction most of the time. It wasn't that she disliked social interaction... Well, she did a little, but not enough to wish to never have it. The RA just wished she could have it more on a basis of her own choosing than her current career.
Sinful Affinity: The remainder of their walk to the coffee shop was spent in silence as Emma tried to figure Ty out. Her responses were short but thus far more, than a single word so there was progress. Although the third year did still appear confused a lot. Maybe. . .that was the key. Simplicity. How the hell could a complicated creature like the Telepath communicate simply? Was that even possible? A tactic to attempt sometime, but not likely this outing. Arriving at their destination she politely opened the door, holding it for the shorter woman with a sweet smile.
metallicseraph: Only the faintest hint of surprise was given as Ty stepped through the door that Emma held open with a nod and a "Thanks." Moving into the small cafe eyes skimmed over the menu. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, bagels, chips and sandwiches. None of which sounded particularly bad right now. Stepping off to the side of the not so large area Ty made sure there was plenty of room for others to move up and look at the menu as well if it were Emma or not.
Sinful Affinity: A shy "you're welcome" was the redhead's response to her crush, savoring the fleeting moment of watching the strong, beautiful brunette sway past her and into the shop. While she was aware those around her might notice how obvious she was being she didn't much care what they thought. With a swooning sigh, Emma finally moved in to catch up with her companion and look over the menu. Hmm, what sounded good? Eyes darted toward Ty, then away with a smirk to herself. Maybe a bagel and a cup of coffee.
metallicseraph: Taking a moment Ty paused before nodding to the worker and making her way around the front of the ordering station and down the side path where some seats were and two large standing coolers remained as well. None of that hot caffeinated stuff today. Pulling a bottle of water out of the cooler she pivoted and headed back up to the front, now standing on Emma's other side to look at the menu once again. A sandwich or a snack? She'd missed lunch but dinner wasn't too far away either.
Sinful Affinity: As the brunette began to move a crystalline gaze followed her until the mutant heading back, Emma's eyes shooting back to the menu. So shameless. Considering her options another minute, she'd figured it all out. Just a little something to hold her over would do the trick. Making her way to the ordering station there was a brief wait before one of the workers became available to help her. Going through the motions, it wasn't long before she stepped aside to wait and again took in the sight of her companion.
metallicseraph: Weighing the pro's and con's her decision was finally made. It'd be simple really. WIth all of the stuff provided by the university all ready she'd get something when she got back. Besides her mom was most likely to be sending another delivery of food soon. Like she always did. Waiting for a moment for things to get settled Ty then stepped up and ordered a bagel and a chocolate chip cookie before paying and slipping away from the cash registered as she cracked the bottle of water open.
sinfulaffinity: "I'll be there," the Empath replied with a bubbly smile after finishing her bite of bagel. Washing it down with a sip of her drink, thoughts zoomed through her head. What to talk about next. "So, do you have any other hobbies?"
metallicseraph: Ty shrugged, not really wanting to get into the other aspects of what she deemed her personal life. "Not really." A glance around revealed the busy moment at the coffee shop to be winding down a bit. Not that it really mattered all that much but it was nice not to feel so crowded in the tiny space. "You?"
sinfulaffinity: "Reading mostly. And driving. Do you like cars?" she mused, studying the other woman contently for any signs of discomfort. This conversation did seem highly focused on herself but her company almost seemed like she prefered that so Emma didn't mind.
metallicseraph: "Not really." The statement was simple and while the intent was clear there was no particular note of disgust in her voice so the dislike clearly wasn't too incredible. There were other methods of getting around, not that Ty'd really been up for many of those either as of late.
sinfulaffinity: "Oh? What mode of transportation do you prefer?" she asked curiously. She herself had always been into cars and motorcycles because of her dad but some people just weren't as interested. At least it was a neutral topic, right?
metallicseraph: "Motorcycle." The reply was short and simple. Most people around campus knew of Ty's bike... Well, assuming they had been around last year that was. Not that there were any particularly large influx of freshman each year. Hopefully the conversation would begin to deviate soon otherwise they'd be getting into topics she'd much not prefer.
sinfulaffinity: "That's cool. My dad and I have been rebuilding one in his shop over the last year, though I've never actually driven one," the Empath revealed with a nod. "I know it's a bit of a jump but do you like anime or comic books?" She was reaching. Those were two of her favorite things in the world and maybe, just maybe this beauty shared an interest. If not, well, that was a couple things off the conversation list.
metallicseraph: She paused, nodding in response to the statement. "That's cool." Taking a drink of her water brows knit in confusion at the next question. Swallowing the water a brow rose. "What's anime?" Maybe she was out of the loop but that didn't really ring a bell at all.
sinfulaffinity: The look on her brunette companion's face was adorable, explaining excitedly, "Japanese animation. There are several genres and animation styles for whatever appeals to the individual. I enjoy some of the darker stories but there are some really adorable fluffy ones out there I'm sure. If you'd like we could hang out some time and I could show you an episode of my favorite anime. I promise, it'll only take an hour of your life and if you don't like it, I'll make it up to you."
metallicseraph: Brows remained knit for a moment. An hour? Since when did TV shows take that long? Japanese animation? She still looked confused, hoping this wasn't some sort of kids thing. "Uh, yea sure." What was she supposed to say really? "What's it about?" Perhaps the question was a bit too nonchalant but... They were talking about... cartoons for Christ's sake.
sinfulaffinity: The confusion just kept building and the Empath's smile grew. "It's about a two group of people selected to be warriors for the battle that will determine the world's future and the choices they make. It won't actually take a full hour but if you like it we could watch another episode." It made her insanely happy the other woman was willing to give this a shot and who knew, perhaps Ty would even like it.
metallicseraph: Taking another sip of her water a brow rose. "Uh...huh." The topic matter seemed a little cut and dry. Though unfortunately rather familiar... from a much more real life perspective than she cared to admit. Kinda sounded like the animation was almost based on the real life of some of the faculty members. Eyes shifted down to her watch, checking the time.
sinfulaffinity: "A beautifully dark story with at least one character anyone can relate to. Let me know when you'll be free and I'll find my box set of it." Polishing off another couple bites of her food, it was almost done. "It's much more interesting than the basics but I wouldn't want to give anything away."
metallicseraph: "Mmm." Dark story... greeeat. Maybe she'd get some more reminders of the reality so few knew. Retrieving the cap of her water she screwed it back on, not really having much else to say really at this point. "Yeah." A nod was given to the other. "Most things are."
sinfulaffinity: Finishing her snack, she washed it down with another sip of coffee. 'Maybe I should see if I have anything lighter in case it's too intense for her.' Eyes followed the woman's motions, the glimpse of ink reminding her of another topic she wanted to discuss. But first, "ready to head back?" there was no rush but she'd noticed Ty check her watch a moment ago.
metallicseraph: Rolling the rest of her bagel and the cookie into a napkin she tucked them into a side pocket of her jacket. Another short nod was given. "Yeah." Slipping out of the chair the jacket was pulled up and over her shoulders, sliding her arms through the sleeves as she stood. "Good to go?"
sinfulaffinity: Collecting her things, she shuffled over to the garbage to dispose of her trash and nodded to the brunette. Steps were made toward the door and it wouldn't be long before they were in the cold again. To most it would be clear the Empath was becoming more comfortable with her new aquaintence, enough that during the later part of their conversation her stutter had slipped away. Focusing on the conversation helped and when she wasn't terribly nervous it was easier to lets the habit fall away. But would it last?
metallicseraph: Heading out the door, she pushed it wide open allowing some extra time for the other to walk out behind. The cold wasn't her favorite thing, but then again neither was the blistering hot. Why couldn't she live in a moderate climate zone? Urgh. Hands were stuffed into her pockets as the path between the coffee shop and the university was traversed once more.
sinfulaffinity: "Thanks." When the cold hit her as she slipped out behind Ty, the Empath's mind began to wander again. "So, um," the Telepath began, emotions slowly increasing at the back of her mind. What she wouldn't give for her previous amount of focus on a permanant basis. "I-I noticed you like body art. If-If it's not too personal, what kind of-of tattoo person are you? M-Most people fall into one of-of two catagories I've observed. Trendy or substance. I-If that makes any sense."
metallicseraph: A nod was given to the other once again as she walked silently, being glad for the pause in discussion. A comfort in silence was always something the mutant had appreciated. It drove some of her friends nuts, but the ones that understood it were golden. Then words interrupted a quiet walk. Brows furrowed, considering the commentary for a moment. "Substance I guess."
sinfulaffinity: This information caused her smile to brighten. It was rare in most of her experiences to meet somebody who chose their body art by meaning rather than "ooh, that's cute/awesome!". "Cool," was all she would reply, allowing the silence to settle in again. Sure, the Empath remained curious about meanings and how many tattoos the beauty had tucked away but she'd pried enough for one day. That subject could also be very personal which she was avoiding so she enjoyed the chilly weather and a quiet walk back to campus.
