A song trickled through her mind in pieces. Fragments of sounds and lyrics crept in on the corners of her mind as eyes slowly wondered over each word on the newspaper in front of her. It was a strange phenomenon how things would manage to seep their way into one's consciousness and haunt a person without their permission. The mind was a funny thing she'd heard time and time again and to this day the young professor could only add that the mind was also subconsciously sick and twisted. Fingers delicately moved along the edges of the paper, rolling a corner upinto a grasp between her forefinger and thumb, waiting to turn the page and move onto the next article with what seemed like ancient history plaguing her mind. It really wasn't as long ago as she forced her self to believe, but pretending the event had happened long ago in a far away place always eased the ache that accompanied things like the melody that currently haunted her.
Slowly turning to the next page of the local paper eyes scanned for anything that stood out in the reports and finding nothing a soft sigh slipped past soft lips before they pressed into a partial frown. Shifting her position the caster leaned forward and began to fold the paper in the appropriate creases before tucking it firmly under her arm and standing. Perhaps some coffee would help ease the strain the day had left on her so far? That would be best. Even though many would just be waking from their evenings slumber a night filled with duties that required her attention had left her with little sleep and due to this Keiko had all ready been awake for hours.
Stopping for only a brief moment to straighten her shirt and fix her hair in the mirror the apartment was then exited. While fully equipped with a functional kitchen, Keiko was hardly in the mood to cook today. It was certainly going to be a long day and taking advantage of the full meal plan supplied to the faculty by the university seemed ideal at this moment. The least amount of work she had to do, the better; this considering how incredibly busy she was expected to be today with courses, students and appointments. The first semester of the new year meant there was sure to be new faces mixed in with the common flow of names to remember, repeat and pretend to... well... never mind that. It was all just a charade they were expected to play, to care, to be concerned, to be involved with. Or at least those were the lies Keiko repeated to her self every day, as if the repetition would actually let her remove her emotions from her own body. If she could be emotionless... Her frown deepened at the thought but was quickly dispelled as she came to the metal paned underground corridor that connected the teachers corridor with a passage to Mallet Hall and another off shoot to the training facility. It was time to make the world seem beautiful.
A slight smile picked at the corners of her mouth, each step secretly falling in beat with the snippets of song clinging to the outskirts of her mind. In a matter of a few minutes she'd be outside in the cooling New England morning air and could pretend to be distracted by the million things that happened around her. Just like every other day of her life.
