Of course it was and yes, the US is still a work in progress. However, this fundamental right, the Federal Courts have stood up for and now is the time to finish it. And I find it amusing that a general law like this makes people worry about absolute power in a government but all the little laws that are enforced everyday to modify and control people's behavior aren't. Everything we do in this country is legislated.
Repealing DOMA isn't about changing the Constitution. The right to marry has already been found to be a fundamental Constitutional right through the 14th Amendment's Due Process Clause. Now it needs to be applied equally.
