With the HYDRA missions moving along, Howard Stark had taken a few days to put out some fires in other areas. Stark Industries had multiple contracts with the U. S. government that needed to be overseen, and a new plane prototype was about to roll off the assembly line in Buffalo. Very few people were as qualified to act as a test pilot as Howard himself, but after a successful run, he got word that there was something even more interesting going on back at the SSR base in Europe.
Running on too much coffee and too little sleep, Howard set his plane down on the airstrip, then taxied to a carefully camouflaged hangar. The telegram from Colonel Phillips was strange. People from another time? From the future? The Hell did that mean? Not literally from the future. That wasn't possible. Things only ran in one direction, unless you could move faster than the speed of light which human beings probably couldn't survive if it was possible at all. Although to be perfectly honest, the idea had kept him awake a night or two in his lifetime. It wasn't something he needed to do at the present time, though, and so other things took priority.
After checking in with some of the base personnel and poking around for what gossip he could get, he had a better understanding of what was supposedly going on. Whether he believed it or not... well the jury was still out. He considered tracking down Peggy. She'd have an opinion. She always did. She would have calmly gathered all the facts available and assessed the situation. But where was the fun in that? He'd much rather just jump in, feet first, and see what there was to see. One of them was apparently, as one of the privates had nicknamed him, 'the gadget guy'. Howard loved gadgets. That's where he would start. Now he just had to find him.
