Sam Ford and Iggy, UTR
Celebrate: Sam Ford and Iggy
Going to Times Square to watch the ball drop had been Esk's idea. It had caught on like wildfire, with the entire cheerleading squad as well as several students from other clubs Esk was involved in. Sam recognized some of them—Iggy’s brother John had his arms around Callie, Kurt and some of the other kids from glee club, Candy and her new boyfriend. Then of course there were a billion people Sam didn't know. The place was ridiculously crowded.
Sam didn't love crowds, but he could function in them. Iggy, not so much. Sam had asked Iggy if he was sure he wanted to go, knowing how loud it would be. Iggy insisted they go, being friends with so many people going and knowing how much they would want him to be there. Besides, he wanted to spend time with them too. Looking at him now, though, Sam suspected Iggy was starting to have second thoughts.
Sam squeezed Iggy's hand. It was still sort of new, being able to do that. Even after they had established their mutual liking, it still took some time to figure out what they were to each other, and what they did around their friends and in public. Neither of them was used to dating.
Iggy smiled a little, squeezing Sam's hand back. He didn't like that he was making Sam worry, but it was nice that Sam knew him so well, and could read his signals, whether he meant to send them or not. "I’m okay,” he said, answering Sam’s unasked question. It couldn't be that much longer until midnight, could it?
Sam hated that Iggy wasn't enjoying this as much as everyone else. How could he? The whole thing was about seeing the ball drop, and with all this noise, how could Iggy see anything?
Suddenly, Iggy felt a tug on his hand. Sam was leading him through the crowd, not overly concerned with bumping into other people. With this size of crowd, it was impossible not to. He kept hold of Iggy’s hand, though, always careful to make sure they weren't separated. Finally the crowd thinned slightly as they went around the side of a building.
Now that they were somewhat removed from the crowd, Sam let go of Iggy’s hand, but his side remained pressed against the other boy’s. Iggy heard the sound of tumblers clicking and several small tools that didn't sound like keys bumping into each other. Sam swung the door open, ushering Iggy inside. "We should be quiet," he said in a hushed voice. Luckily, Iggy didn't have a problem with breaking the law every now and then, as long as nobody got hurt. This was hardly then his first B&E. He was a little disoriented, since he couldn't tell which building Sam had led him to in the crowd, but now that they were inside, he could make out the hallway Sam was leading him down. There was still a dull roar from the throng outside, but it was much more tolerable now, for both boys.
They took the elevator up thirty stories. Sam was a little worried they wouldn't make it in time, but the elevator was fast. The floor just below the roof had an observatory. The walls were entirely made of glass, and curved outward slightly. They could hear the crowd starting to chant. "Ten!" From here, Iggy could actually make out the ball, and Sam had a pretty decent view, too. They wouldn't be able to watch it come down on top of them, but it was still pretty cool.
"Three! Two! One!" Iggy leaned in and kissed Sam on the lips with perfect aim. Sam blinked in surprise, but kissed back. The muffled cheering of the crowd faded into meaningless background noise. Iggy finally pulled away, smiling some. "Happy New Year."
Sam chuckled, unable to keep himself from grinning. "Happy New Year," he agreed.
