Who: George, Tea Where: Constantinople When: 1642 What: George meets his first New God (that he's aware of, anyway) and Tea meets a worshiper
George had always like Constantinople. The problem was, Constantinople didn't seem to like him back.
He'd traveled to the city partly to offer some support to the Christians inside of it, and partly because he'd missed this region of the world. He'd gotten a strange thrill from visiting Nicomedia (conquered by the Turks, as most Byzantine cities were) and standing in the spot where he'd died centuries before. It had made him feel oddly light and happy, and he'd traveled to Constantinople in a good mood.
His good mood was rapidly fading.
He wasn't sure if the city was usually this crowded, or if everyone in it was usually in such a poor mood, but he'd gotten in no fewer than six brawls since he'd arrived three days ago. (Only two of which could have been considered his fault) He'd come back to the building he was staying this afternoon, only to discover they weren't letting anyone inside. When questioned about it, the haggard-looking owner had just said "Rats. So many rats."
It was this that had led to George sitting in a tea shop by the edge of the docks, scowling, watching the sun set, and drinking tea. That, at least, was making him feel a bit better. He'd gotten fond of tea over the years, and always felt a little bereft when he was traveling through regions that didn't have it.
