Who: A different incarnation of Media (omnisciency) and Peer Pressure (followtherules) [narrative]
When: Queen Victoria's court, England
Where: Mid 19th century
Notes: More a drabble than a narrative, actually, and Media kidnapped for my use without Vari's permission.
Her pleated skirts are spread about her as she sits in the center of the room, surrounded by her retinue. Some are silent, but most converse quietly as they embroider, commenting on the court's events, the king's hunting and the latest from the opera. The pecking order is subtle, but evident to the experienced observer, in the circles around the grand lady and the smaller clusters surrounding lesser dames, like a planetary system in miniature with its full array of satellites. Every movement depends on her, even if tangentially, and her senses catch every shift in atmosphere and mood.
At her feet sits a fair child. She breathes, and the room pulses and vibrates in resonance. The girl is too absorbed in her needlework to notice the ripples, but the lady is well aware of them. She is omniscience made flesh, and the pale maiden is her protégé, to be guided and nurtured.
In time, the child shall learn how to wield the strings. She will master the maneuvers and shifts, and flourish under the aegis of the dame. For now, she is content in her embroidery, and it means the world to her to have a goddess's nod of approval over her tiny, precise stitches.
