She said it like she knew he'd been thinking about not coming, which now made him feel a little more uneasy about this, and maybe also slightly guilty. It wasn't his fault that she was kind of creepy, was it? Not that she didn't try to be nice around him or anything, but... but maybe it's his fault she's kind of creepy. He wasn't the only one though, right? Tyki said alien abductions. But Tyki didn't tend to like the company Kane kept, so maybe Tyki didn't count.
"No I'm okay... I just... 'cause you were... I couldn't- ...uhm.
"Thanks for the invitation," he ended up saying, sounding slightly defeated as he slunk over towards his seat. For someone named Cold she could be quite warm and welcoming. Kane wouldn't invite people he didn't know to a dinner... but it happened sometimes. Usually those people kind of invited themselves to his dinner though, which was all sorts of new levels of awkward.
He felt slightly underdressed because it all seemed quite formal. There were namecards and everything.
