She gave him a small smile when he turned, but it faded in a few moments. Over the years, there had been many reasons for people to not like the sight of her. She sometimes brought news of trouble, sometimes asked questions and needed answers no one wanted to give. She was not always welcome….but this was not quite the same. This was bad news of a different sort. Delivering decrees and conveying requests had always had little to do with her, but this was her offering her help, and she had to tell him the truth.
“The only thing I know how to do is try to feel and find them. There are always things that affect that…distance, strength…..and this time….” she looked around the darkened park, making out shadows of things and not feeling particularly reassured by them. “I don’t feel anything here. Though, of course, I don’t know them well, and they are little. We should keep looking wherever you think they might be.”
