Opening emails from Jane were always a bit like playing Russian roulette with only one bullet missing from the chambers which wasn't a bad thing per se. One just had to be prepared for everything - everything - and there wasn't that much left in the world that could catch Jamie by surprise anymore.
This, however, was something else entirely.
There was surprise, disbelief, a very mild two seconds of shock, a brief moment of indecision about what to do. Was there a protocol on how to act in situations like this? If there was, National Security wasn't aware of it and so he gave in to the first reaction that pounced on him: he laughed. And laughed and laughed and laughed and couldn't stop.
The Chaos child had run away, pressing her hands to her ears and crawled under the bed. Daddy had gone insane and they were all going to die now. Which sucked because she hadn't had a boyfriend yet or found true love or got the chance to fire a bazooka. So unfair!
When he heard Enola's voice and saw her face, another wave of laughter hit him, and all Jamie could do was turn the laptop around to show her what exactly he was watching.
