Her key wasn't working. Again. Had the locks been changed? It wouldn't be the first time and Enola was prepared to be annoyed about not receiving that memo until she realized she was using a older key from three weeks ago. It was a challenge having a child who couldn't reach the doorknob and had a special knack for opening locks anyway.
Maybe they should get whatever crazy retina-scanning device Jamie had suggested. It might be more efficient and cost effective given the frequency that Enola did get frustrated and kicked the door in.
Today wasn't a door kicking day. Today she would open the door like a normal person and be confronted by something that was immediately suspicious.
