Whether or not he meant his first comment, she still beamed. "Isn't it just? I mean, generally these kinds of things are always about surprises, but my main thing was just 'oh, masques, I haven't done this in ages' and the potential mystery there was in dancing with someone I didn't know. I didn't expect this, but I'm happy for it."
When he didn't take the glass she set it down, never taking offense to much of anything he did. She accepted and found the bright things under even his mask of always blame. She knew where they were, and what, and kept those things close to her.
"Oh, I'm good." Usually it was great, but without her sisters or mother it was a little dimmer, and she might be a lot but she was no liar. "I work at a local counselors office now. It's nice, even though it's heavy work. Lots of people that could use a good word, and most of them young." She shook her head, willing to acknowledge that it did make her sad how many mortal youths could not praise themselves, or be praised by those who were supposed to love them.
The sadness only lingered for a moment before she smiled again, "merry Christmas by the way."
