Glibt put down his spoon as Paul began to speak, knowing that the boy needed to talk about his past and giving him his full attention. The stories some of his people told him broke his heart, the pain he felt from various members of his population on a daily basis broke his heart, but Glibt worked constantly to better their lives on a larger scale and did his best to soothe their pain when he could, in person, or while he slept.
And, yes, Paul's story was one of the heartwrenching, heartbreaking stories that made Glibt just want to wrap the young mortal tightly in his arms and do his best to ensure that Paul never had to feel any sort of pain ever, ever again. Glibt wished that for every member of his population who had been, or was, going through something that traumatic, but Paul was a special case; apart from his connection to Harvey, the young mortal had made it through all of that and remained bright, vibrant, and was working toward helping those who had been in his past situation. Glibt listened to every word, his expression soft, nonjudgmental, and completely understanding. Of course he understood because, although he'd never gone through those specific events himself, he had the trials of all his people in the back of his head.
"Harvey's good like that, I see how much he's improved your life, I see how much he's improved Thomas' life. And I'm not going to offer you platitudes, feed you lines like... you're stronger for it, or that it led you to Harvey or anything like that. But what I do know is that there are people who care, who want you around, even apart from Harvey. I, personally, wouldn't be here if I didn't care. And you should see how wide Thomas grins whenever he mentions you. It's rather adorable, actually." Glibt shifted lightly, ignoring his food and his alcohol for the moment; Paul was more important and he deserved his full attention, deserved to receive more than the canned lines Glibt could shoot out, that so many people used when talking to those who had been through traumatic experiences.
No, Glibt just wanted Paul to know that, even though Harvey was gone, he was valued and wanted by everyone around him. "What happened, well, simply put, it shouldn't have happened, but I'm here, if you want to discuss it in further detail, or to just do my best to ward away the nightmares tonight so you can get a full night's sleep."
