"And Johnny? And myself, thirty odd years ago?" Glibt hated to bring it up, especially when he was scrambling inwardly to attempt to find a new best man and fighting the urge to want to postpone the wedding if his best friend wasn't there beside him, but it was the best example he had. "Mark, I'm not saying that my feelings on his budding relationship are all together positive. Bret's mortal and that's my main concern, not because he knows about us or anything like that, but because literally anything could happen to him and that would hurt Thomas."
Glibt ran his fingers through his hair. "But I think that Thomas deserves to make his own choices to an extent. He deserves to learn through experience and, yes, make his own mistakes. To be given the opportunity to gain the life experience you want him to have and, quickly, too, if his party fails and he ends up fading. I don't know, I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree on this. And it's ultimately... well, he's your son, not mine. Your opinion matters most and I don't think I can change it. I just know that gods mature quickly and he's not a kid anymore, no matter how much you want him to be. Fighting to turn him back into a kid is only going to hurt both of you."
Glibt looked enviously at Mark's beer for a moment. These conversations always went better with alcohol. "I know that you didn't mean to make him feel unwanted, but he did, and I think that's what matters. It's part of what's shaped his personality up until now. Johnny and Malcolm, well, they're different. Weren't you more present in their formative years than you have been with Thomas? I mean, I'm not trying to blame you for anything, but I'm just trying to see this from both sides. And the fact of the matter is that he's been hurt and is hurting right now."
And, then, Glibt spoke tentatively, his voice trembling just a tad, and it was obvious that he was perhaps a bit too invested in the question for him to be caring about the outcome solely for Thomas' sake. "Are you going to apologize to him eventually?"
