Mnemosyne | Nora Moss (recalled) wrote in forgotten_gods, |
Following Echo's entry, in which it was clear that she was going in labor, despite not mentioning if her water had broken (perhaps that was too graphic for such an entry), Mnemosyne immediately called into work to let her boss know she would be unable to make it in that day. Even if it were possible, she preferred to take the day off and dedicate it to someone who she knew would appreciate it. The phone in her coat pocket felt heavy as she typed in a familiar number: a coworker's, one who she'd become fairly close with over the months. Favors were things Mnemosyne rarely asked for, but today was a special occasion.
Remarkably, the voice on the other line agreed to give her a ride into the Catskills, which was certainly far out of the city's limits. But only under the condition that she got dinner in return. Traffic was slow that morning, as it typically was when people were on their way to work, and Memory tightly clasped her hands in her lap as she attempted patience.
The ride out of the city wasn't particularly long, but it literally felt like hours, despite her coworker driving just under the limit. Outside the window, the scenery grew more and more gorgeous by the second, and in a fleeting moment of nostalgia, she briefly missed being out of the city.
Finally the car pulled up near the hospital's emergency room entrance, and after giving her chauffeur a grateful kiss, she slid from the vehicle and fell into a swift walk. Echo was certainly going to have others with her, but it made no difference to Mnemosyne. She wanted to be there for the nymph, who had always been sweet and kind. Giving birth was a difficult ordeal, and she was positive she would be the most experienced in childbirth out of anyone that could possibly be at her side, her own mother excluded. Nine children were an impressive handful, after all.
Reception informed her of the location of Echo's room, and making sure to keep her brisk walk safe in the event she nearly collided with an oncoming gurney or person, the goddess at last reached her door. She smiled breathlessly, glad to see the girl was still in one piece.
