Bret shrugged a little, "I'm an only child, so I wouldn't know from experience, but my mom's the youngest and she's definitely the kind of person who needs a lot of attention a lot of the time. In that regard, I think Tommy's guilty-" he said, turning to smirk a little. No one there would deny that, it was just a matter of Bret giving Tommy different attention than anyone else and, yes, a lot of it. The thought ran quickly through his mind before he turned back to dinner.
He nodded along with Harvey's explanation of the situation, before interjecting. "Actually, he's working on a project with me," Bret said. "My mother runs a community outreach program in San Francisco and she gave me the idea which I turned around and gave to Harvey - other Harvey, not this Harvey," he motioned towards the older man. "But there's the LGBT center, there's a center for African American kids, a woman's shelter and an organization that promotes the rights of sex industry workers in the area and the project we're working on is a sort of community coalition - putting all of the community outreach programs under one committee to be more effective with fundraising, community events and just having an open communication about the needs of one another."
Bret shrugged and took a drink, pausing for a brief moment before continuing his explanation. "The show I'm doing tomorrow... 100% of the intake goes to the fund for this committee, so it'll be divided up between the organizations we're currently affiliated with. It's not much, but I've talked to some big-names on Broadway and they're really interested in helping. So I need to make some calls to Broadway Gives Back - I'm sure they're sick of hearing from me by now - next week and make some arrangements for bigger things. We're hoping to put on a show in Central Park by next spring."
And there was the proof that Bret was just as much of a workaholic as the rest of them were. The fact that he had a 4-day weekend was close to a miracle and he was still working his ass off this weekend for the center. He was motivated, he didn't know how not to be motivated - it was the way he was raised. And being around all these people who were just as motivated just fueled him forward. He was sure it would just get worse with time...
