Who: Mandrake and Datura
What: Datura pays her brother a visit
Where: Mandrake's shop
When: Wednesday morning
Warnings: None? Creepy Nightshades acting creepily, probably.
"Uh, Drake?"
"Sì, Carlo?"
"Are you feeling all right?"
"Sì, Carlo, I'm quite well. My sister is coming to visit, didn't I tell you?" Mandrake paused in his rather ineffective, though enthusiastic, attempt to sweep up loose soil from the floor, and looked at his assistant with an assessing look. The boy looked almost spooked. Perhaps Mandrake's behavior at the moment was a little bit... odd, compared to his usual cool demeanor, but this was a special occasion. The shop had to look just right, and the tea had to be brewed perfectly, and there had to be a light lunch ready to go in the kitchen upstairs in case his sister was hungry, and everything had to be perfect. This wasn't just another sibling visiting, this was another Nightshade, one of his precious girls for whom he would always make sure everything was perfect.
"Oh, I guess I do remember you telling me that. Which sister?" Charles, for his part, was a little spooked. Drake was a perfectionist on most days, but today was just outlandish. And he seemed almost happy. That in itself was cause for alarm. He had been pleased to go out to dine with his brother Oscar last month, but even that paled in comparison to his attitude now. Maybe Drake was just closer with his sisters, it happened with siblings sometimes; Charles himself was much closer to his younger brother than he was to his older brother. It was probably just that.
Mandrake finally deemed the floor clean enough and put the broom away, going to the sink behind the counter to wash his hands. "Damali. You haven't met her yet. When she arrives, I'm leaving you in charge of the business for the day. We haven't seen each other in some time and I expect we will take a good deal of time to catch up," he explained. Now that the shop was organized to his satisfaction, he leaned on the counter and gazed expectantly at the door.
