Thomas frowned deeply. "But I don't think I could do anything that I'd regret later, anything bad." He was quiet again as he thought about that. He'd known that his parents weren't infallible, of course. Thomas knew that, in particular, Marijuana had made some bad choices; he'd seen the way that Cam looked at the older god sometimes, stale mourning and accusation in his eyes, even if Thomas didn't understand it. And Heroin's substance could kill people, although there was free will associated with that; the mortals made their own choices and if that involved using heroin, the consequences weren't Heroin's fault. But, Glibt? No, he didn't think his almost-step-dad could do anything wrong and he definitely hadn't thought that mark could either. This was going to take some time for him to puzzle out.
"At least I don't think I'm going to say it again anytime soon." Thomas replied quietly; no, he wouldn't, not unless there was something worse than slavery in Mark's past. He hoped there wasn't. "And I wouldn't blame you if you didn't take me seriously as a Party, yet. I only had one Congressional hopeful and he didn't manage to raise the money he needed to get on the ballot." But there was room for growth. No, Thomas would probably never have a President in office, but he could inspire change. "Eventually, though, I'll get someone on the ballot." Thomas smiled sheepishly; and then he'd worry about actually winning an election.
Once the waitress was gone, Thomas slipped his book back into his bag to clear room for when their food arrived eventually. And, again, he had to think about Mark's words for a moment; he was still worried about the state of his father's relationship with Glibt and he'd still think about it, of course, but saying he wouldn't just seemed easier. "Okay, I won't think about it too much, then." Thomas said easily and then there was more silence as he fished around for something to say. He really didn't want to talk more about Mark's past; they had covered everything and now all there was left to do was for Thomas to think about it heavily and try to come to terms with it.
But when was the last time that they had actually just talked? Thomas wasn't quite sure, but he made a brave attempt. "Maybe I could come stay with you guys soon? It's been awhile."
