Paul looked looked over at Glibt for a moment, staring at him as he explained. "I don't have a faith or spirituality," he said after Glibt had finished talking finally. "You can only be told that you're going to Hell and that God hates you so many times, you can only be sent to so many religious centers for therapy before you lose all desire to believe in anything at all." Which is why Harvey hadn't gone there first; it wouldn't have mattered. They'd had this conversation before and while Harvey had always held some residual belief of his former faith, anything that Paul might have had at one time was gone. Or he thought it was.
He looked at Harvey for a moment, still staring at him, unsure. "I knew," he said. "There was nothing in the news about you before a couple years ago, you miraculously know all these important people, you flinch at loud noises... I suppose the fact that you twitch every time anyone mentions that movie isn't really significant, but maybe I would have thought more about what was weird if wasn't some completely impossible to believe." He was rambling a little, nervous. Shaken. "Okay," he said, shaking his head a little. "Okay, you're Harvey Milk. I... I have no reason not to believe you. You've never lied to me - except about this - but you've never given me a single reason not to trust you. And it makes things make sense. But who is..." he looked to Glibt.
Harvey knew that both he and Glibt were handling this the way they both thought was right. Harvey handled Paul the way he needed to be and Glibt softened the blow. It was... working? Apparently. He turned and looked over his shoulder at Glibt for a moment. "Legends aren't the only ones who can be given a form through belief," he explained. "Men have been inventing their gods for as long as men have had thoughts - and with people turning away from conventional religion more and more, they replace their faith in gods with faith in things, concepts..." He could see that Paul was still confused. "LGBTQ Culture," he said plainly. "That's who he is."
Paul blinked, stared at Glibt, and muttered... "Well fuck." He stood there, shaking his head. "I... This is insane," he repeated, "but I can't think of any reason not to believe you. It makes no sense and I don't know what I'm supposed to do with this. So my parents are right?"
"No," Harvey said immediately. "They are absolutely not right about that. Listen to me," he reached out for Paul's hand. "I love you and if there was anything wrong with who you are, neither of us," he nodded at Glibt, "would be here. But don't you see? Their authority isn't the end-all, be-all. There is so much more that no one will ever know because most people can't handle knowing - I know I wouldn't have been able to. But you've been with me this long because you're smart and strong and I knew when it was time to tell you that you'd be able to handle it."
