Comparatively, the times Boudicca spent with Adrestia as an active presence in her life were significantly more surreal than her normal day-to-day activities. The goddess fluttered in and out of Boudicca's peripheral vision, sometimes scuttling about on the borders, and sometimes positioning herself directly in front of Bou's face, crooked grin full of some haphazard mix of hysterical glee and bloodlust. Bou took it in stride. Usually.
To her credit, when she stepped in her front door and was immediately assaulted by the smell of chemicals and soap, Boudicca didn't even sigh. She sucked in a sharp breath and stayed the course, pressing in through the oppressive fumes and shutting the door quietly behind her. Her breath was held the entire way to the window, where she unlatched the lock and slid open the glass panes, releasing the air from her lungs and letting the tip of her nose brush against the screen as she inhaled. She did the same with the rest of the windows in the house, stopping every few paces or so to pick up a sticky bottle here and a half-empty bucket of lukewarm water there, or to lift a stinking rag off the arm of her new couch with carefully measured nonchalance.
With all the windows open and most of Addy's mess cleaned, the tired work clothes she wore were stripped off and tossed in a hamper, shoes were removed and set in the closet, all the while with the rumble of jets echoing in her ears. The frequent splashing and high-pitched squeals of delight set her mouth in a grim line, and once Bou was clad in an outfit she deemed "water safe," she marched toward the bathroom with a particular edge in her step.
While it felt inherently wrong to scold one's goddess, Boudicca decided that if her home was to retain any scrap of visual and structural integrity, it was probably time to give a stern Adrestia what-for. [Whether her goddess would listen or not was another matter entirely.] Taking only one moment to make sure her expression was as steely as she meant for it to be, she pushed the bathroom door open and folded her arms, standing firmly in the doorway, looking spectacularly unimpressed with the scene that greeted her.
