Who: Pheme and Mordred
Where: A Manhattan bar
When: Around 11:30pm
Rating: TBD
The meet-up place she'd chosen was one of her latest haunts; a ridiculously trendy bar, all brushed metal, black leather minimalism bathed in dim red light. It was the kind of place where food came in servings smaller than your fist, at prices higher than the average household's weekly income; where celebrities were known to flock and you couldn't get in the door unless you knew someone.
Pheme didn't exactly have friends in high places, but she did have rather a lot of wary acquaintances who were wise enough to want to stay in her good graces. Fay Legata's reputation was nothing short of infamous in Hollywood, and word spread quickly. When it came to celebrity news, she was always right at the head of the pack, the first on the scene with the exclusive. She had eyes everywhere. It was said that a single stroke of her pen -- or tap of her keyboard -- could make or break a person's career.
By the time she'd reached the bar, she had already scanned over Mordred's latest blog posts on her iPhone, shot out a quick Google of "Mortimer Gant", and gained a brief refresher in Arthurian folklore and the great king's mysterious son. She'd known the basics already: an illegitimate child born out of an incestuous relationship, grows up, turns traitor and ultimately dies killing his father in a great battle -- all very epic, Homer would surely have approved. The web search confirmed all this, and also revealed to her that her 'date' was an independent bodyguard who'd recently begun working for one Izzy Rose-McGillis.
Nosy? Intrusive? Stalkerish? Hmm. Personally, Pheme preferred to think of it more as a healthy sense of curiosity.
When Mordred arrived -- they'd already been worded up at the door that Ms. Legata was expecting a guest -- Pheme was, as promised, waiting for him at the bar, cocktail in hand. And, as promised, looking rather fabulous, if she did say so herself.
