Every so often, Peter and Laurie would get it in their heads to do something nice. To give back, in a way. Laurie had been trying to think of a good pet project for a few days, a way to purge some of the feelings of revenge against some nameless force out of her system, when she saw George's post about Afghanistan. An idea hit, and wouldn't let go, and between her and Peter they were able to get everything all set so that they could set up an event to assemble comic book care packages for the troops.
It might have seemed trivial, but Laurie knew that troops liked to read comics as much as most people. Besides, they'd be sent a variety of comics, snacks, and even some simple toys to help then unwind a bit. Plastering the town with fliers, Laurie and Peter decided that for a five dollar fee people could come and make their own care packages, and then they'd mail them out on the company dollar. They hoped to get a good showing.
About an hour after the 'event' started Laurie was sitting in the middle of the floor going through some of her favorites as she put copies in different boxes. She was sure the gifts would be appreciated, and this way even George could see they (sometimes) had their hearts in the right places.
