He didn't know how long he had been sitting there, slumped in his couch, just staring at the wall. The nagging feeling that he should be somewhere else lingered, burdens of responsibility which were once so foreign to him weighing down on his mind. At the very least he should be able to look after those in his care. But even now, he wasn't anything more than he ever was, and he didn't have the final say on things that mattered the most.
Needless to say, he wasn't expecting anyone, nor was he in the mood for entertaining any guests.
Peeling himself off the couch, he took his time wandering over to the door and pulled it open, ready to turn away the unwanted guest when he lifted his head and looked straight into an old familiar face.
