You have to get her back, Triton started to say, but bit back the words just in time. Instead, he took a step back and frowned slightly. With everything they said, this conversation got farther and farther away from what Triton had initially wanted to say and what he had been feeling.
“You’re going to go see Zeus about this?” His voice was level. “Are you looking for his help, or is he the one responsible?” Either way, Triton didn’t think the chances of finding cooperation were good. It was Zeus they were talking about. If he was responsible, however, and his father was going to confront him……Triton wanted to say no, don’t go, don’t go and make trouble for yourself over something like Medusa. At least fight for……but Triton wouldn’t say it.
He would have to say something, though. He would not let his father go off unprepared, he would not keep what knowledge experience had given him quiet, coloured though it was from all too personal feelings.
“If he doesn’t want to help you, please be careful. I couldn’t do anything to help you last winter….I don’t know what I could do for you against…him.” Admitting he was useless stung, but it was better to say it than to pretend otherwise.
