"Yeah I uh... I'll get that fixed... whenever. Just don't go in there." If he had to cordon off every area that he'd broken something in there wouldn't be any room left in his house where they could actually walk safely.
He didn't see anything that wasn't in his house in the first place, other than the two boys. He might be quite drunk but old habits die hard, as they say, and if he hadn't noticed something was there in the beginning, it wasn't there in the beginning.
"It's okay. The phhhhhone is- all weird orrr whatever," he muttered, slurring his words while making meaningless hand gestures with his functioning hand. He wasn't aware he had to leave the phone on the stand in order for it to charge power to work, and he took out the answering machine things because those voices were starting to annoy him. The boys were no stranger to him than the things in his own house, and maybe he should have been worried about that, but he found it quite comforting.
