"No one is ever ready to take on the responsibility of the world." It was not something that one could 'be prepared' for, nor did it require some sort of talent that needed to be honed or cultivated. None of them were ready when the world was handed to them on a silver platter. They all had their chances to make things right, and used those chances to use their gifts in self-serving ways.
"Young boys promise a lot of things." Young girls fell for it all the time, thinking that the smiles would never age, never fade, never die. Thinking the world would never change until they became dust and dirt - thinking promises young boys made meant more than mere words uttered quietly to the wind.
