Had she known he was feeling guilty she would have done anything she could to show him he had no reason to be. She was the one who had assumed Narcissus would protect her, her faith obviously misplaced.
She deserved everything that had happened to her, for not listening to Himeros. If Echo had been a betting type she would have gotten cleaned out. Her eyes widened in brief surprise that it was Himeros and not Narcissus waiting by her bed, but her happiness for the company overrode her desire to ask why.
Watching him as he kissed her fingers and then lightly touched her face, Echo blushed under her bruising. He had called her beautiful even though she could tell she certainly wasn't. Not anymore, at least. Using her good hand, she began to sign at him slowly.
'Hey. How bad is it?' She was of the impression he wouldn't be honest with her, and probably for good reason. 'Water, and ask the doctor how the baby is?'
