My days always dry up and blow away
Who: Phobos (fearandpanic) [Narrative]
What: Waiting for the sea monster
Where: Pacific Coast
When: Friday
Warnings: None.
If there was a sea monster to be found anywhere in this country, surely, it would be here. Waves several times his height crashed into rocks relentlessly, again and again only to be beaten down. Right? Wrong. Give it several mortal lifespans and one would see how it was really the rock that yielded to the waves.
Phobos had come here before. When? He didn't remember. A long time ago. The generic answer to most questions regarding things he'd done or not done in the past.
Clothes getting damper by the minute, he kept his gaze trained on the sea. Watching, waiting. Did he really expect to catch something by just staring? Not really. But it gave him the illusion of doing something.
Medusa had no need for a creature from the sea. If she wanted one, there were others who could get one for her. He wondered what she was doing. Had she found what she was looking for? He hoped so.
'Call her.'
'No.'
Images of sandy beaches and sky-blue waters crossed the boy's mind. Sunshine and palm trees. He'd wanted to go there not so long ago. A bay with turtles and sharks and surfers. He wondered if his father had gone there when he was on Hawaii. Probably not.
'Call him.'
'No.'
'Call him. You know you wanna.'
'No.'
'Can we go home, then? I hate it here.'
'No.'
'Why not?'
'Sea monster.'
'There is no sea monster.'
'There is no 'home', either. Might as well stay here.'
'Che, you're gonna lose. I'll make sure to hit where it hurts when it happens.'
'We'll see.'
Ignoring the sound of obnoxious laughter ghosting through his head, Phobos continued to stare at the ocean.
