The television was still on National Geographic channel, the poem by Sarah Teasdale echoing from the screen. -There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground. And swallows circling with their shimmering sound.-
The girl lay curled asleep upon a couch, clad still in the jeans and tee shirt that she had been found in, for she had nothing else. Her sneakers were tucked into her room, socks removed and a blanket lay draped over her. At some point she had put away the leftover pizza and had closed her eyes to rest them for a moment. Then she was asleep, listening to the gentle pattering rain that came in the wake of humanity's end.
