"Oh, but of course. She has nothing but good things about her sister." Narcissus turned toward the kitchen where Echo had moved. "Isn't that right?" He turned back toward Daphne, as she described the deer. "Excellent." he said with a friendly smile, watching as she moved to help Echo in the kitchen. His smile slid from his face as easily as it had come about there. Although he knew that Echo's interest lied in him, as it well should, he couldn't help but to feel a bit agitated that someone else was receiving attention from her. He let it go, for the time being, in the interest of looking like a good host and hearing what this new nymph had to say.
Narcissus certainly didn't feel his place was in the kitchen, but he wasn't quite willing to leave the two of them alone in his home. After a moment or two, he trailed them into the kitchen, seating himself at the table. It was too late for him to hear Daphne's compliment, though. He picked up his latest gardening magazine and went about reading it, leaving the women to the cooking.
