Food Good For the Soul
Who: Raphael azarias and Michaeldefendus Where: Amy Ruth's Soul Food Restaurant When: 6:15PM Rating: PG, I suppose
There was something so appropriate about the title of soul food. Soul food was the ultimate in comfort food. It was generally served family style. It had care and time in it's preparation. And soul food was Raphael's most favorite discovery of Manhattan outside of the museums. Hence, when he'd left a message for Michael to find him, he could think of nothing better than Amy Ruth's.
Currently the table was laden with various side dishes - Raphael not being the sort who enjoyed choice. Given the option, and having to choose, he'd just take everything. It wasn't a case of gluttony or sloth, it was a case of indecision.
Currently, he was spooning mashed potatoes onto his plate alongside a cut of cornbread, stringbeans, and sweet potatoes. The gravy would come next.
Looking in he took in the atmosphere of the restaurant, crowded as always. The decor was as simple as formica topped tables, chairs suited for any kitchen, and low strung pendant lights - all of which created an intimate and home-like environ conducive to relaxation and conversation. Taking a moment to say his thanks, head bowed and eyes shut, he nodded his conclusion - wondering if he ought to wait for Michael.
No, there'd be no waiting. He'd just caught a whiff of the gravy boat.
