Uma was lost in the music. The club was closed, although the doors were unlocked since other assistants were in and out in preparing the space for later in the evening. Since afternoon was when Uma was at work cleaning and mopping and feeling like she needed multiple arms to get everything done, she had free reign over what music played, and today, it happened to be Muse. She rocked her body to the melody, singing to herself as she steered the over sized mop across the dark floors of the ground level, lost in her own world. She vaguely recalled telling the girl who was interested in coming in for an interview that anytime of the day would be fine, but be damned if Uma recalled if a specific time had been agreed upon.
Upstairs, in a secreted room on the side of the uppermost terrace of the club, Kali sat in silence, her hands on either knee, her eyes closed in meditation. For a goddess that reeled with an inner chaos and was constantly moving, the stillness might have seemed out of place. But even in stillness, her breath flowed, she moved in imperceptible ways, and air itself was still shaken by her presence, candlelight flickering despite the absence of a draft.
Uma and her mop danced their way across the floor, for the moment unaware of the door.
