What a catch...
Who: Echo (narrative), Open ^^
What: Filling out job applications and thinking
Where: Brown Cafe
When: Tuesday, late afternoon
Warnings: Emo nymph?
Sitting in a cafe, her laptop off to one side and a stack of applications out in front of her, Echo was hard at work. Nibbling on her pen, she had been filling out paperwork most of the afternoon, for everything from potential jobs to government aid. After the one-two punch combination of Pothos and Aphrodite's comments on her recent journal posts she was feeling pretty low, but also more motivated than she had ever been before. She had a clear idea of what she needed to do, and was doing everything she could to get it done.
First step was finding a job, which involved a lot of explanations to make sure the places she was applying for weren't a waste of time. So far, she had discovered that her latent passion for cooking was probably her best bet, as most restaurants would prefer cooking staff who could follow orders and recipes without complaints. Otherwise, she had applications to various hotels around the city for housekeeping jobs, and one for a position as a sign language interpreter. All in all, as she sipped her hot chocolate Echo was pretty confident she had step one in the bag.
Step two was more complicated, since that involved her cleaning up her life. She needed to figure out what to do about the baby, and the complete clusterfuck she had made of her relationships with Himeros and Narcissus. She had wanted to keep the baby and raise him with Narcissus, but then everything started spiraling out of control. Himeros had raised the point that Narcissus might not actually be a good father considering his penchant for ignoring the outside world in favor of the mirror, and when Narcissus caught wind of Himeros' continued efforts to stay in Echo's life he brought up the point that his competition was only in it for continued access to her body and affections.
Then there were Pothos' comments, which had her doubting even harder hera bility to be a good mother to the child. She had already been worried, between her curse and lack of experience, but for someone who was one step above stranger in her life to say that both Himeros and Narcissus seemed more concerned about what happened to the child than she was hit her right where it counted. As far as she was concerned, she was the one making all sorts of changes to accommodate bringing a child into her life. She had quit drinking and smoking, and the closest she had come to partying was dancing at Club Shanti. Still, she was utterly gobsmacked.
For the first time since finding out about the baby, Echo was considering the fact that everyone's life would probably be easier if she just had never gotten pregnant. She had been vehement in her belief that she couldn't abort the child, but maybe she had ruled out that option too quickly. No, she was quite certain the life growing inside her deserved to be born, just whether or not she should be the one to raise him was the issue. Could she honestly give up her child; she honestly didn't know. What she needed was a friend, someone who wouldn't paint her the villain in all this or try to get into her pants.
Sadly, in this city, that seemed like the one thing she'd never find.
