Who: Nergal, Lilith and Saloes
What: Lilith discovers her son's boyfriend...
When: Backdated to Mon, Jan 18th. Evening.
Where: Lilith's home.
Warning: Language, at least.

It was bound to happen eventually. Nergal didn't really attempt to hide his relationship with Saleos any and he sure didn't blame Devin for outing it. She was a sweet kid and she was just being sweet. Sure, some might see it as a weakness, but Nergal knew she had a stomach for some stuff that would make grown men faint. She had his respect. And it was unfair to Saleos to ask him to keep sneaking around behind his mother's back when Nergal should just man up and do right by him. In a way. Normally he wouldn't give a fuck, but hell, he liked Saleos.

That was what led him back to Lilith's front door. He'd been there before but never had need to knock or do anything but wait for the boy to run out to his car. But he knocked and he waited, sliding a hand through his hair before shoving it in the pocket of a leather jacket.

It wasn't that Saleos was ashamed of his relationship with Nergal. That definitely wasn't it. He just knew how his mother could be, how over protective she could be over him. While he usually thrived on her coddling and attention, in this situation, he just wanted her approval. Something he obviously didn't have now, as she sat seething on the couch, having ordered him to sit as well. They had been sitting there in relative silence, Saleos refusing to answer any questions about Nergal before he arrived. He didn't want to say the wrong thing and ruin their chances of having her acceptance for good. Lilith, for her part, was astonished that her baby boy would dare defy her and only grew angrier, her hand in a white knuckle grip around her evening glass of wine. It was a wonder that the glass hadn't shattered.

Saleos started at the knock at the door, wide eyes darting to his mother. The look in her eyes demanded he remain seated, and so he did, not moving a single muscle.

Lilith stood slowly, smoothing her hands over the front of her shirt and making her way to the door. Her demeanor was cold and formal, silent anger obvious within her. Sliding the door open, she gestured wordlessly to an armchair, not offering him a drink or any refreshments as she usually did with those of Hell (she refused to recognize his heathen origins. He was a lowly demon, the head of the secret police and under Beelzebub's employment). She returned to her seat, her back straight as a rod and watched him unblinkingly, lifting her wine glass to her lips and taking another sip.

After a few moments, she spoke, still staring Nergal down. "You took advantage of my son."

"No! W-" Saleos interjected, shaking his head wildly from his seat next to his mother and across from Nergal.

"I did not tell you that you could speak, Saleos." Her tone was icy and dangerous, but she not take her eyes off Nergal, waiting for a response.

Nergal gave a small, polite nod to Lilith in return of her gesture towards the chair. He was hardly intimidated. The worst she could do to him was tell him to stop seeing Saleos, in reality. And while that cause a pang of something in his chest - dread, maybe - it was something he could live with and get over. He didn't want to, but he had done many things in life he didn't want to and do didn't enjoy.

He shrugged off his coat, wearing a simple black tee-shirt that clung to his chest and jeans that did the same around his upper legs, beneath it. Taking his seat, he paid a glance over to Saleos, a warm smile lingering in bright blue eyes even if it didn't make it all the way down to the rest of his face. Then his gaze was straight over to Lilith just in time for her accusation.

"Took advantage?" he repeated. "No. I didn't take advantage of anything. I have always waited until your son has made a request of me before I took any action of the sort, as any servant in my position would do," he explained carefully, sure to keep his tone and the pace of his words neutral. He wouldn't deny they'd had sex. He didn't know how much she knew and who told her what.

Nergal leaned forward a little, wanting to reach out and touch Saleos and let him know not to be scared and that this would all be taken care of, but could not, just yet. "In honesty, my intentions with your son were merely to fulfill a physical need on both of out parts... At first. But the more time I've spent with him, the more he has shown himself to be strong, intelligent, capable and better company than I have found in another person in a long time."

He paused and took a breath, gathering his words again, "Your son will rebel, it's what children do, no matter how good of parents we are. But he has an innocent quality to him that someone with less respect for his position and yours will take advantage of. I have respect for you both and I adore your son and I can't help but dote on him and spoil him rotten and give him everything he asks for. If you would rather I leave him alone and let him fall into the hands of someone who doesn't care about him and only wants to use him for their own gains... It'll pain me to do, but what can I do but honor your request."

Saleos tried not to fidget, knowing that doing so would only make his mother more angry. Instead, he looked toward Nergal, but not long enough for Lilith to notice. He caught the smile in Nergal's eyes and felt comforted, at least a little. He could only hope that his mama would see things his way and realize that Nergal made him happy. And every parent wanted their child to be happy, right?

Luckily Lilith didn't notice, as she was too busy staring Nergal down. She listened to his words silently, only taking tiny, dignified sips of her wine. Her grip on the wine glass was the only thing that betrayed the intensity of her anger. When he was done speaking, she set the glass down gently on the table and folded her hands in her lap. "So what you're saying is that my son initiated..." She gestured between Saleos and Nergal. "This." There was an unmistakable air of disapproval in her voice with that last word. "Saleos is that true?"

"Yes, mama!" He nodded, looking back and forth between his mother and his lover. "He never made me-"

"That's enough, child." Lilith said sternly, but softer than before, conscious of his panic. Saleos relaxed a bit at her change in tone, but still remained silent and still, looking back toward Nergal. He looked good in that shirt and those jeans and he knew he shouldn't be having thoughts like that at that moment, but he couldn't help it.

"Yes, he is all those things and more, which is exactly why I question why you believe that you are deserving of him." She glanced over at Saleos, who was frowning slightly at the notion of Nergal not deserving him. "And please, do not lecture me on the tendencies of children. I have more than you can fathom and I am well aware." She took a moment to ponder that last bit, which did make sense. If her son, her Saleos, was seeing anyone, she'd rather it be someone within the ranks of Hell so that she could keep a better eye on them. "A source had encouraged me not to trust you with my boy, as he will simply become... what was it... yes, another 'pet' to be discarded."

Nergal held his head a bit high at the question and gave her a small nod. "I never said I was deserving of him. In your kingdom... I'm little more than a mere bodyguard and spy. And understandably, that's all that matters to you. I don't deserve him at all. But I adore him and I give him everything he asks for. And he wants me." He shrugged a little and leaned back in his chair, looking relaxed and aware of everything around him.

He narrowed his gaze, though at the pet comment. Oh, he knew just who'd use a term like that in a situation like this. "You spoke to Ereshkigal," he sighed, shaking his hair. "It is her paramount goal in life to take anything that makes me happy and destroy it. But she's bitter over the fact that I took her kingdom from her and turned it into the grand empire it is now - as I would have done to any man who was handling his business with an incompetent hand. While she was off attempting to sleep with her sister's husband or whatever infidelities she committed against me while we were, I thought, faithfully married. And now, thousands of years later, she's alone and miserable and wants everyone else to be the same." The demonic glint shown in pale blue eyes and he snarled a little at the thought before shaking the glare away.

"I don't keep pets," he said. "I had slaves in the days when there was a great empire beneath me, but those days have long passed. Now my only desire is companionship. And I prefer loyalty to gallivanting all over with whomever. Yes, I discarded my last... situation, but that was the only way to get rid of a situation that had become unhealthy, emotionally draining and utterly stifling. Your son is none of the things that last boy was and runs no risk of ever be cast aside like that. I would like our relationship to be serious, committed... if that's what Saleos wants. If not I remain, as always, his humble servant."

Lilith hummed in consideration. She was never one to deny her children, especially Saleos who was so close to her heart, what they wanted, whether it be material things or people. She knew her son well enough to know that if he wasn't set on having Nergal, he wouldn't have gone through the trouble of hiding it from her, then trying for her approval. She looked to her son, realizing that she could not remember a single time in Sal's whole existence when she had not given him what he wanted. Sure, she had told him no on occasion and she rarely gave in to his tantrums, but eventually she would feel guilty for not indulging her boy.

"At least you know your place..." she murmured under her breath, taking a deep even breath. "I will look into Ereshkigal's comments further, but for now..." She looked between Saleos and Nergal. "I see no reason for this... situation to be terminated." She said it with complete confidence that if she had decided to put an end to it, it would be done by the two of them without a thought. But she would allow it, for the time being. It was likely the number of times that Nergal had complimented Saleos that did the trick.

Saleos, face dark with blush for Nergal's comments, couldn't help but to smile. "Oh, Mama, thank you!" he said happily.

"Not so fast. I demand a few things. Saleos you will cease your lying and sneaking around, or I will see that you are sent back to Hell for at least another decade, and you will not be able to contact Nergal." Saleos nodded fiercely. At the moment he was ready to agree to any stipulations that Lilith set.

"As for you," she said, looking to Nergal. "You will continue to serve and protect my son. If he wishes for a committed relationship," She missed the nod that Saleos gave "then so be it. If any harm shall come to him from you or because of you, I will personally see to it that you are destroyed." Her nose turned up slightly as she talked to Nergal and her voice hardened at the thought of her son being hurt by the demon before her. "I will be keeping an eye on you."

Nergal kept his expression calm and unaffected by Lilith's comments... until he saw the smile on Saleos' face and he couldn't help but burst out with a smile of his own.

"I would never dream of doing anything but," he answered her first question, catching the nod and smiling even wider for some god-forsaken reason (joy, it was not a thing a death god was familiar with feeling). "I promise you I will not bring any harm to him," the 'intentionally' and 'unless he asks very nicely', he thought, was implicit in the statement. "And I would, of course, not blame you at all for keeping a watchful eye on me. I would do exactly the same if I were in your position." Which was true. But he was suspicious of everyone.

Nergal looked at Lilith for a moment and then stood from his chair, folding his arms behind his back as though he were standing in the ranks in Hell. "If it is acceptable," he said, still putting on a polite facade, "I would like to speak with Saleos alone for a moment. Just to... get some things straightened on our end, to make sure everyone is on the same page?"

Lilith narrowed her eyes at Nergal's request but stood, lifting her wine glass with long, thin fingers anyway. She stood stoically for a moment giving Nergal a hard look. "Yes, of course." she said, smiling an obviously false smile. She turned, leaning down to where Saleos was still seated. Brushing back his hair so similar to her own, she pressed a kiss to his pale, freckled forehead. She gave Nergal another look before disappearing down the hall and into her bedroom.

Saleos leaned over the arm of the couch to watch her leave, and after he was sure that she had gone, he stood moving toward Nergal and moving to wrap his arms around him, looking up at him with that bright smile on his face. "Hi." he said, which seemed to be the most logical thing, considering he hadn't gotten the chance to say it before.

His arms slipped around Saleos' in return and he pulled him in close, kissing his his cheek and then along his jaw. "Hi," he replied softly against the boy's ear, kissing his neck softly. "I told you I'd make everything alright. You didn't have a thing to worry about." He leaned back and brushed his fingers through Saleos' hair, looking down at him with a small smile. "So," he hummed, "you want a serious, committed relationship, huh?" he teased. "I'm yours and you're mine and all that?" Not that it was really a curious notion, just that he was surprised the enthusiasm Saleos had shown when the subject came up.

That was, mostly, what he wanted to talk about - to make sure that was really what Saleos wanted. And maybe to do it loud enough that Lilith could hear. "You like me enough that you want me for an indefinite period of time?" He asked. "Well... that's certainly something I didn't expect to come in here and find out." He winked, "Thought I was just some pretty think you were stringing along and amusing yourself with," Nergal teased.

Saleos' eyes drifted shut as he felt Nergal's lips press against his skin and he let out a shaky sigh, letting out the pent up nervousness and the new hint of arousal. He knew well that his mother was just down to hall, and he couldn't remember if his sister was home or not. This wasn't the time or place but he couldn't help it when Nergal was touching him like that. "I should have have listened. It would have save me a lot of worry..."

He listened, nodding as Nergal spoke. "Yes, that's what I want." He pressed a hand to Nergal's chest and curled the fabric of his shirt between in his fingers lightly. "Well, you are pretty..." he said, going along with the teasing. "so I think I'll just keep you myself." He smiled up at Nergal before jutting his chin upward and parting his lips, silently begging for a kiss.

"All to yourself?" he repeated, drawing the words out and pulling a bit of a face. "I don't know about that... You sure you're not going to get sick of me?" Of course he was teasing. He knew no such thing would happen, but it still didn't mean he couldn't be a little playful. Especially not now.

He leaned down and pressed in for a quick kiss. Very, very brief. "You're perfect, you know? Utterly perfect and beautiful and so very sweet. And I would be humbled and honored if you wanted to keep me all to yourself." And then he leaned in for another kiss, this time longer and a bit harder than the one before it, holding his hand at Saleos' jaw and the other sliding to hold firmly at his waist. It was the kiss he'd wanted to give him since he walked in the door. Comforting, sweet, a little bit needy...
