“It’s amazing,” Notus replied, pausing to take a quick peek at the paper Khione was holding. The sketches made no more sense to him now than they had before, and yet they still filled him with excitement. There was an important message hidden somewhere within all those numbers and letters – he just knew it. It was like looking at a treasure map, except he had no idea what the treasure might be.
“I don’t know how he does it. It seems so... complicated. I get confused just thinking about it.” He shook his head and started to sort through the next pile of journals. There must have been a decade’s worth of notes stored inside the apartment – too many calculations and observations to even count. Notus wondered if any of the predictions had yet to come true. It was a thrilling thought.
“You know... when I was a kid, I used to ask him what the stars told him. He’d give me a different answer every time, too. I guess they’re always changing... the future’s never constant. It makes the whole thing sound like more trouble than it’s worth. But Pops seems to enjoy it.”
