It was a miracle, really, that no one was involved in a one-way crash into the steel wall that was Karl when he continued to run down hallways. Surprised exclamations and inquiries were completely mute to him as he focused on getting to where he could feel his partner's heat signature. Once he entered the building, he could sense her still inside it and he had no intentions of letting her getting any further than that.
Wide-eyed stares were ignored as well as he pushed through doors and came close to running straight through the automatic doors.
His own eyes were darkened with anger. Anger at his partner, anger with the mission, anger at the dead man that now resided in the Christian Hell, anger with the hospital staff letting his partner slip by this easily, anger at himself for letting this happen, anger at Alyssa, partner-in-crime, who had taken the bullet meant for him, who looked deathly pale on the stretcher as he looked on stoically in the ambulance--
--why she needed to risk her life again when the mission was at its end - why did she need to endanger her life when it was the only thing that Karl couldn't heal with his own hands, his entire being--
The door leading to the fire escape stairs banged open as Karl practically hurtled straight through. He paused enough to look up at the long flight of stairs, searching for her face, before he bolted up the steps.
He felt her before he even saw her, the heartbeat from her body coming on as weak and erratic. His fists tightened as he approached her, his face unpleasant and set in anger, but when he stepped up to her, and wrapped a strong arm around her waist while his other caught under her legs to pull her off the ground, his movements were void of rage but filled instead with solidarity and firmness - machine-like.
But where his body failed to communicate emotions, his words did not.
"What the frak are you doing, Higurashi? Are you trying to get yourself killed again?" He furiously accused her, not bothering to explain how it was that he found her so quickly or to explain his own actions of sweeping her up and already starting up the stairs to where Alyssa had painstakingly escaped from.
[ooc; And yes, "through automatic doors" was inspired by the song, if you were wondering XD]
