Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:lilibeth, lilith, saleos

Who: Lilith, Lilibeth, and a bit of Saleos (going to go ahead and just use Lilith's journal for the both of them)
What: Mother and daughter reunite. Brother and Sister meet for the first time.
When: Friday evening
Where: Lilith's apartment
Warnings: None that I can think of

Lilith milled around the kitchen, humming quietly to herself. Lately, with her husband in town and now her son living with her, she was feeling more domestic. True, she had always kept a clean home, but with her and Molly being the only ones in the house, save for the occasional male guests, there was no reason to cook. Now, however, she was putting her skills to good work, cooking all of Saleos' favorites and working out the menu for Sunday's family dinner. Especially now, considering there could be one extra guest attending.

Saleos sat at the kitchen table, his head resting in his hands as he watched his mother cook. On the table was the day's mail, including an official looking envelope. Saleos had no idea what had been contained in it. All he knew was that his mother had stared at it for quite a long time before putting it down and getting to work on dinner without a word. "Mama, what's that?" he had asked innocently. "Nothing for you to worry about, my boy." he said, pressing a kiss to his forehead. Saleos beamed brightly.

Maire was dead. Lilith couldn't say that she was surprised. She was a mortal and an old one at that. She couldn't even say that she was all that upset. Sure she was one of few women that Lilith cared about in the slightest, but it had been so long since she had seen her that it hardly mattered. What did matter was the fact that Lilibeth, Lilith's youngest, was left without a guardian. There was a good reason Lilith didn't have her daughter with her. With all the immortals in the city, it just wasn't safe for such a young Lili. Well, at least she had time. Lilibeth was at school.

That was what she thought, at least. She had no idea that her daughter had been expelled from yet another school. That is, until her doorbell ring and she felt the unmistakable thrill of not only another immortal, but her own child. She set the bowl she had been holding on the counter and, ignoring Saleos' questions, rushed to the door, struggling to remain composed.

She opened the door, her face blank. "Lilibeth?" she said quietly, though there was no question about it. She could see herself in the girl. Before she could stop herself, she embraced her daughter. Say what you will about Lilith, but one thing was for sure: she loved her children.

Lilibeth had never been on her own before, but since coming home from the latest school she had been bounced from and finding strange people milling about the house she was feeling lost and alone. There had been a meeting with a kindly old lawyer to explain why Auntie Maire was no longer there, followed by the sad saying goodbye to the only house she knew, and then the packing of all her things. She had nowhere else to go, but she couldn't stay there, and so she had taken the ticket that the nice lawyer man gave her to head to New York. He had said that her mother would be expecting her, but Lilibeth didn't know where to look.

Her only clues came in the form of the letter that she had found in the unchecked mail before she left, an envelope containing a check and a request for an updated report on her progress from some place in New York City itself. Lilibeth had figured she could start there and hope for the best. It had taken her a little while, a train ride followed by a cab ride and quite a few confusing moments regarding money, but she was finally here.

After earning a few odd looks from the doorman, and getting lost when trying to find the right floor and apartment number, Lilibeth was standing outside her mother's door. She knew it was the right place because there was something that just felt right about being here, though there was also the oddest feeling that she could be setting herself up for some kind of disappointment. What if her mother wasn't home, or was busy, or even worse - had a visitor. She would feel awkward, adding to the confusion she was already feeling deep down inside, but this was something she had to do. She had no idea where she could go if her mama didn't want her there, but she figured she'd cross that bridge later.

Finally knocking, Lilibeth took a moment to run her fingers through her hair, shifting her suitcase at her feet as she made sure that her outfit was straight. There were other people in the hallway who had been watching her, but she ignored them as she focused on the door. When it finally opened and she saw before her that familiar face, she felt a smile spread across her own face in response.

When she felt her mother's arms wrap around her Lilibeth giggled, hugging her back. "Mama?" she held her for a moment before pulling back. "Mama, I found your home! I didn't know where else to go!"

Rubbing her back, Lilith pressed a soft kiss to the top of her daughter's head. It was unusual for her to be so affectionate, but this was her daughter, and her baby, her youngest at that. She was the first mother, so naturally her maternal instincts were strong. "Well, of course you would come here! I would have gotten you, I just assumed you in school!" She took a step back, beaming, and stroked Lilibeth's cheek. She was so beautiful. All of her children were. "Come in, come in!" She said, picking up her suitcase and ushering her through the door. "I've got dinner cooking. I'm sure you're hungry."

Saleos, tired of not knowing what was going on, made his way to the door, standing behind his mother. He cocked his head, much like a confused puppy. "Mama, who is that?" he asked quietly.

"Saleos, this is your sister, Lilibeth. She's going to be staying with us for now on." She didn't take her eyes off of Lilibeth, didn't stop smiling.

Sensing that the time where he was the sole object of his mother's affection was drawing to an end, Saleos folded his arms over his chest. "Oh. Hello."

Practically shaking with excitement, Lilibeth peeked around Lilith's shoulder to get a look at the other person in the room. Just as curious about Saleos as he was about her, she put her thoughts aside as she listened to her mother speaking. "I got kicked out of school, there was this girl and she was being mean, so I told everyone how she had been sleeping with one of the professors and was pregnant. She isn't anymore, we fought and I don't know why but the baby..." She paused, unsure of what else to say as she followed Lilith inside. "I am hungry, but I'm nervous."

Lilibeth looked up at her brother, smiling shyly. "Hi, I've never had a brother before. I hope we can be friends!" She held out her hand slightly, pausing as she saw him cross his arms over his chest.

"Mama, I can really stay here with you and Saleos?" she responded, clearly excited.

Aware of a sudden tension in the room, Lilibeth stared down at the floor, wondering what she had done wrong.

Lilith couldn't hold back the smirk that came when she heard Lilibeth's story. Yes, she was definitely her daughter. "That sounds like a valid reason." she said, and she meant it. She was actually quite proud. "You'll learn more of what you're capable of later and how to control it. All in due time, my dear." She set the suitcase on the ground. There would be time later to get her room prepared. "There's no need to be nervous, my sweet girl."

Saleos reluctantly offered her his hand. "Yes, well I have tons of sisters, and you have tons of brothers." He said quietly, with a hint of bitterness. Sometimes he'd rather be the only so that Mama could be focused completely on him 100% of the time. He shook her hand loosely before turning back to their mother. "Yeah, mama, is she staying here?"

"Of course you can!" She said. "Where else would you go, dear? We would be hard pressed to get you into another boarding school, and well, it's about time that I had you to myself." Now that Lilibeth was with her, even for the few short minutes that she had been, she couldn't think of letting her go. Satan was here along with a whole cast of demons. It was difficult to imagine anyone trying anything.

Lilibeth saw the smirk and felt a surge of pride at seeing Lilith seem happy with her. "I didn't want to fight with her, but she thought she was better than me." She spoke simply, as though offering fact and not opinion. "You mean that I somehow caused the baby to...?" She paused, her eyes lighting up as she realized the implications of this. "I've got powers? Like you, mama?" She was someone special. "Alright, I'll try to calm down."

Glancing at Saleos, she shook his hand with a far firmer grasp than he offered her, listening. "Oh, well you're the first brother I've ever met, so that make you special!" When he let go of her hand she let her own fall to her side, waiting to see what Lilith's answer would be regarding her living situation. She hoped that she could, but wasn't going to push the issue.

"I don't know where else I'd go." She responded, suddenly excited by the prospect of having a real home. "Will I have a room to myself, that I can decorate however I like?" She had never been able to decorate her own room, although she wasn't sure how she would set up her own room. "Will I have to wear a uniform here, like I did at school?" It might be a silly question, but she was unsure as to how living with her mother might work.

"Yes, darling, you did, and you had every right to. If she thought herself better than you then she got what was coming to her. No child of mine will be disrespected in that way." She smiled. "Yes, my dear, you have powers. I'm sure you've noticed some things before."

"Yeah." Saleos said simply, trying hard not to roll his eyes. Mama wouldn't like that very much.

"Yes, you will my dear. You'll have a room all to yourself that you can do whatever you want with. We'll go shopping soon to get you all the furniture and clothes you could need." Lilibeth's excitement was exciting her. "No, dear, of course not!" She chuckled. "You'll have to wear a uniform at school, yes, but this is your home, you can wear whatever you like."
