She smiled as he laughed. If she couldn't find the humor in this it would be the death of her. And she didn't even want to think of what that would cause.
"I can't even imagine that." She felt bad for every soldier that did do it. She wanted to go to them and wrap them in her arms and promise them it would be alright. But she couldn't, and the lie would come to easy for her.
His last question caused her to give a true smile, one that reached her eyes. "Oh yes, it is. It's so great to be able to give them a home. some of these people have it so hard, and the fight is a bloody one but each time I win I get to say 'welcome home, welcome to your future'. I get to keep my promise and do what I do best. It makes me feel so, so loved. They tell me I make it worth the while, and the wait. But they make it worth fighting and struggling for freedom. It's one of the best things I'll ever do. And I love it."
