The waves were so loud even though the boat was gently rocking on the waters, and in the distance he thought he heard a voice. A familiar, female voice, calling out to him. His eyes were closed so he couldn't see her face, but in the blackness he could draw her features like an artist putting pencil to paper - the long, wavy hair, eyes that captured the ocean and reflected everything back...
His Amphitrite.
How long had it been?
He turned to look at her, a lazy smile spreading across his face. It wasn't that he didn't like her, wasn't excited to see her or that she bored him - it was just comfortable to settle back into familiarity once again.
"You look beautiful tonight," he said, straightening, slipping his hands into his pockets. He thought his voice would be drowned out by the ocean, but for some reason everything felt a lot more serene, a lot more peaceful and calm, a lot quieter than before.
He might not have been able to recognise her over some whirring machine, but when she was standing there so close to him, he couldn't forget her even if he wanted to.
"If we have to ask each other that, it has been far too long."
