His eyes had watched her every movement until she was out of his range of vision, moving away and giving Karl the answer that he needed. Where there had been a warm body in front of him was now just cold air and space, a distance that once more set them firmly on opposite ends of the line.
Karl let out a sigh, but it wasn't one out of frustration. Relief didn't describe it either. Maybe it was close to being content, even if he didn't get to kiss her like Matt could for Grace, so easily. But he had gotten a lot closer than he normally would - they would - as Agent Whedon and Agent Higurashi.
