When the door opened, Karl didn't know whether or not to be relieved that maybe it signaled the end of their "session" or if he should brace himself for anything his partner had to say about the strangeness of him checking in on her in the shower.
But what he did know was that he wasn't fully prepared to see her with only a towel on.
There was no Matt involved when Karl let the pillows fall away from his face and stared blankly at a towel-covered torso, torso was less than three feet away from him. The gears in his mind tried to figure out if it was Grace or Alyssa standing in front of him that way.
"I don't...need it," Karl managed to say, slowly pulling himself into an upright position.
But maybe seeing her clad in nothing but a towel made Karl realize something. That if it was Alyssa in front of him, he wouldn't need the excuse of being Matt to want to do something about the towel. Since they really had stopped being "professional" when he automatically kissed her in that alleyway.
