The motel room that Karl had rented for his cover was smaller than the one his partner had, having a single bed and a bathroom, not much left for anything else but a small refrigerator. It was fine for him, since he didn't need much to start with except for showers and change of clothes.
But it apparently was too much to hope that her job was better than his. Eyes once more flickered to where there once were on her face, having already done so, so many times, but falling into a habit that was too hard to drop.
"Sorry about being so late. He would've made a visit, so." Apologizing was the first thing on his list, even if Karl couldn't exactly explain it fully before treading on an area not to be spoken between partners. "We can talk about things later, it doesn't have to be now."
